I have been having this issue with Direct-X. I have only had it happen with VBR mp3's I haven't been able to find a solution for this yet. I am thinking maybe it is a bug with direct-x itself.Originally Posted by rhubarb9999
Just installed CF 1.1 on a fresh XP (with SP2) install.
Problem: Some MP3s will play fine, other won't play at all ... they look like they are playing, but there is no sound.
All were ripped with the same program, with the same codec and settings.
All MP3s play correctly in WMP9, Winamp, and MediaCar on the same computer.
DirectX is current and Managed DirectX is installed.
Any ideas?

I know that some of the songs that will not play are not VBR. I rip everything with LAME, 320k, Constant bitrate, true stereo.
Im seeing this issue also, none of my mp3's are VBR though, they are all constant 320k.
Sometimes its a whole album it wont play and sometimes its just a few tracks from a album.
likewise, as posted. Mostly VBRs or high bitrate.
Look at the filenames. If it has two dots then it probably won't play.
Nope .. no strange characters in the file names .. and they are not long.
Looks like I am going with MediaCar until this is worked out.
no strange file names here either, if it helps at all, i can send David a few mp3's i have that dont play and maybe that can help him figure it out.
I would be happy to email some non-playing MP3s as well.
don't know if it can help, but at least give it a try
