    Unhappy Install Problems...

    @ David

    Hi,
I have just installed CF1.2 and when you try running it, it just bombs out with an error message before even trying to display anything.

I can't remember the error message and the PC I'm setting up for my car has no internet or network connections to this PC.

Strange thing is that CF1.12 still runs ok from its new home. (I moved the whole directory to another drive before installing CF1.2 in its place.

I have installed and re-installed .NET, .NET SP1, Managed DX, DX9c, SP2, and MDAC over and over to no avail.

What other dependancies is there? Or components to register?

Do you have enough bandwidth left to also put a full installer package online with all dependencied built in. I know it would be large, but so are D3 maps and people are downloading them.

BTW when I press Cancel to Debug, it won't let me as it can't find a JIT debugger and something about Cordbg.exe.

    HTH

    John

Can't help much without an error message... If you have 1.12 running, then it has all the dependencies... Trying going into the system folder and deleting all the mpl files and the config.xml... Then rerun and it should start setup...

The error message gives a different error number everytime. What I have found though is that when I try running PhoCo I get the same error, something about common language debugging error. It gives a process number like 0x200(1251) or something. Its not good having my web connection 7miles away from my CarPC which is at home, Im at work :-(
I did a screen shot and transfered it to my phone so I'll see if I can find it now...

Just upload it as a file.
Manage attachements, at the bottom of the screen when you're writing a new message.

    Cheers,
I was trying to do it via the image icon, MY BAD!

Anyway David, here's the error message I get upon loading CF1.2 or PhoCO...

I'm thinking its a .NET problem, but I've installed & re-installed both .NET 1.1 and .NET sp1, and also the Managed DirectX & DirectX 9c.

EDIT: Oh and all the fonts are there correctly.

I got that non stop from CF and Phoco. I had no idea what to do. It was driving me mad.
A fresh windows install took care of the problem.
It would be nice to know how to fix it besides reinstalling.

    .

thats .Net language for your missing a driver and or active x controls or .dll

when you installed the MDAC was it 2.7 ?? also .Net development comes with 2.8 so you might have to grab that mdac. You'll have to talk to the developer as to whats missing...

I got this error on my own front end because my target machine didn't have Mappoint installed on it yet, the reason why it doesn't give you a clearer message is because its crashing before the form even has loaded so the "error" event doesnt even trigger, its actually crashing on a declaration...

That is definetly a .NET framework error and the fact that PhoCo doesn't work either helps enforce that... Something seems to be wrong with your .NET install, but not sure how to fix that since I haven't ever gotten it... The inital form load from a fresh install doesn't load anything that shouldn't be on a windows XP machine... It should just need .NET framework to load...

Makes it hard since the error occurs before my form load and any code error logging/handling that might could have helped us...
