The maps are very pretty, but satallite view is something that no nav system has. Sat view with the blue highlighted directions is totally awesome. If you link it with Google Local you have every possible POI. As for turn-by-turn directions, the voice versions definatly have the WOW factor, but I like to drive my car on my own route and see all the back-road short cuts via overview map. Turn-by-turn is useless for anything other than showing off.

By all means state your opinion but dont be silly! It isnt for showing off when you dont actually KNOW how to get somewhere....

If you know how to get everywhere than your whole nav system is showing off...

But your other ideas are well taken... it would be cool to integrate it somehow...

You say no sat nav system has Satellite view, I have 3D photo aerial view on my Sat Nav so you're wrong.

Turn by turn is useful if you want to get somewhere but don't know the way. You're not supposed to look at the map for directions!

Ok, I was a little too hard on turn-by-turn. I'm just one of those people that prints out the yahoo-map at a zoom level I want and never uses the directions. There are multiple ways to get from any point A to point B and I want a picture of how they all connect, more than I want a computer choosing paths for me. I can get through LA traffic quicker making up my own directions.

Stevieg: Is the product called "Sat Nav"? I will google it. Sounds interesting, I have never heard of a Nav software that did that before.

I am also hoping they will soon add traffic reports to google maps. Are there any GPS Nav programs that can display live freeway traffic speeds on the map?

No it's not called Sat Nav, I shoudn't have capitalised those letters! It's not a product you can buy yet, it's still in development. It's going to be out for the UK first though as the main developer lives in the UK!

I have live traffic working on google maps for the whole of the UK as part of a project I am working on, it will also display live in the car on destinator and Mappoint. I think in the centrafuse traffic URL's thread there is a link to a US one however unlike the infomatics project I am part of that isn't using traffic sources that are licenced, there doesn't seem to be FREE traffic data for the US like there is in the UK!

...oh, well then I guess I wasn't wrong then.

    Check this out guys: http://supergreg.hopto.org/google-traffic.com/

It's a step in the right direction... I still need green/yellow/red highlights over every freeway in Satallite view though. I guess Google will do it right when they build it themselves. Speaking of which, I also found this:

"Google recently purchased zipdash.com, which provides real-time traffic info on maps. So it's fair to say we'll see Google Traffic soon."
