you are correct... There will simply be a version of CENTRAFUSE that includes integrated GPS... You will be able to buy CENTRAFUSE with North America or CENTRAFUSE with Western Europe... It will include everything...

    Teletype, 1.3

I've used Teletype for about four years. Teletype's feature list is impressive, the maps themselves are pretty accurate and routing is overall fantastic in my experience.

I purchased the optional 10 million yellow-pages POI database which is really nice (great for quick routing, finding close gas stations, etc.) but it is about two years behind, which is a bit disappointing as there's been a lot of growth in my area during that time. Hopefully they'll update it regularly. Weather and traffic are a subscription and I've yet to try them out.

Teletype's biggest failing for the PC version continues to be the interface, which takes some time getting used to. I personally think once you grow accustomed to it you can do nearly everything you'd ever want to pretty easily (especially using either internal or external voice recognition and some macroing software), but I'm very excited to think of the prospect of a Centrafuse interface on top of the feature-set Teletype offers.

One thing I've suggested to the TT engineers that would be great to see in this version is the ability to assign the output of the TT audio to another audio device. I have three sound cards (one on mobo, two USB) so I can pipe music to the car head unit, DVD sound to headphones for the passengers, and TT voice navigation instructions to the speaker on my Xenarc touchscreen. Right now I have to pull some pretty lame registry setting hackery to fool it into using the right audio device, and that tends to mess up my voice recognition software.

Anyway, I'm thrilled to see 1.3 is due any day now, the wait will no doubt be incredibly worth it. For anyone criticizing decisions to postpone a few features in order to get it out the door, I imagine the developer probably gets sick of people saying things like:

I think it is safe to assume new versions of Centrafuse can be placed into the disappointing realm of "vaporware." It's too bad, I was looking forward to some basic features that all other in-car media ssytems already have, such as XM Radio support. Because of this, I'll be using one of the other systems. Too bad too

Thanks so much for looking into vaious options David.

What about us in Australia? Would we be left in the cold when you switch from D3 to Teletype? I understand Teletype is available with Oz maps though, will you be offering that as well?

Although D3 certainly not the best nav software out there, I would certainly hope CF still keeps D3 integrated for small countries which dont usually get support from Tomtom or iguidance. I was hoping cf1.3 will have D3 integrated just like it was in 1.2. Without integrated gps 1.3 to me seems like a downgrade to me I think.

hihidamon: 1.3 was pretty much a complete rewrite... It will actually be CENTRAFUSE 2 BETA Take 1... When I got to the point to write the integrated Destinator I still had not heard anything back from HSTC... They don't have a finished product... They don't know when or if it will ever be finished... If it is ever finished they don't know how they will sell it or what it will cost... I tried working with them for almost 8 months... I am still talking with them, but until I get some more information from HSTC I will not be spending my time writing code around something that will most likely never be finished or become available...

note: The DLL HSTC released to support full maps expires around August anyway... The D3 integration would have stopped working for everyone...

    David,

The guy who has written Map Monkey has assured everyone that he will develop a workaround to avoid the expiration of the dll in August. He has talked about fudging dates etc in order to fool the dll into remaining alive.

We'll wait and see, but if Destinator does clap out in August, it's going to really leave us Europeans high and dry without a decent GPS solution.

Thanks David. Teletype looks promising as a plan B. You did mention US and Europe package earlier, however will you look after us in Australia by releasing a Aust version of CF with Aust maps (will it be also 3D view as with the US maps?) then?

Do you know rough how much more we have to pay for the Aust maps instead of the US ones? If teletype (Aus maps) is to be included in CF2.0 up, do I have to purchase anything from the local Aust Teletype reseller here in Sydney?

Thanks for your efforts on your great software once again David!

As for "getting around" the date issue with the Destinator DLL... That is most likely in violation of their license agreement and illegal, so I won't be doing any of that...

I will definetly look into whether Teletype provides Aus maps and if they do then I will provide them in CF... You will not have to purchase anything from a local Teletype reseller, everything would be included in CF... I don't have any final pricing from Teletype yet, but they have much better prices than Destinator...
