With that last post, I am begining to realize your vision of the music manager David. You're method of having a now playing out side and easily load songs in to it looks very, very good for building playlists (and a custom "Now Playing") fast. That is a very important use-case for the driver and it especially benifits passengers. That said, it is not the primary use-case for me when driving the car.

I just want to have my whole music collection at my finger tips without ever leaving the now-playing screen. I want to be able to queue-up my entire collection and then just re-sort that queue in a number of ways. In addition to the sort capibility, I would need to be able to easily skip through the sort criteria. Here is my vision for the now-playing window...

At the top of the now-playing window there is a sort button for each of these items:

    -Sort by Title
If now-playing list is sorted by Song title, the only special function is letter-seek (which you already have).

    -Sort by Artist/Title
Songs are listed alphebetically, but grouped by their Artist alphebetically.
In addition to scrolling or next-tracking through the list song-by-song, you have to be able to "jump" to the next artist, the previous artist, or the first artist that begins with any given letter (again, like the letter-seek you already have).

    -Sort by Genre/Artist/Title
Same as above, just group Artists in parent Genres and add the ability to skip to the next/previous Genre. Letter-seek should still skip to the matching Artist, but would always keep you within the same Genre (you don't really need letter-skip for Genre names because there arn't that many of them per-letter).

    -Sort by Album/Track
List each Track in album order and each Album alphebetically by title (the Artist has nothing to do with it). Ability to skip to the next/prev Album and to the first Album of any letter.

    -Sort by Artist/Album/Track
Same as above just sub-group all Albums under their Artist, add the ability to skip to the next/prev Artist, and make letter seek jump to the matching Artist instead of the matching Album (if Albums are grouped under their Artist, then there should never be so many of them you need letter-seek). If possible, the Albums within each Artist should be sorted by release date instead of alphebetically.

    -Sort by Genre/Artist/Album/Track
Same as above just sub-group the Artists by their Genre and add next/prev Genre buttons. NOTE: In both this mode and the Genre mode above, it would be possible have the same Artist (or even Artist/Album) in 2 different Genres, but not the same song. If an Artist or an Album have songs that have different Genre's, then the songs will be split up in this list order (so if you want to hear the full CD from this mode, you better make sure every track on the CD has the same Genre in your ID3 tags).

In addition to these sort modes, you could create many more by throwing "Decade" and "Decate/Year" in to the mix. Maybe just have 3 or 4 buttons and the let people choose the sort-order they want for each one.

Now in order to make finding related music easy and really jump around your collection, remeber that whenever you change sort modes you must display the same song that was highlighted before resorting (not the top of the new list and not the song currently playing). Also, the next song to play after the current song is finished should be whatever is highlighted (if the highlight bar has been moved... if the highlight bar is still on the song currently playing, then play the next song in the list and move the highlight bar to it too).

The final component of my vision is simply to have multiple random modes (random all & random within current genre, artist, or album [depending on the selected sort order]).

If you implemented this system I promise it would be truly awesome!

I have no idea how much (if any) trouble it would be to add this, but I second the request for showing album art that's saved in the tag. That's the way I have my whole collection set up (thank you, MediaMonkey) and it seems the best way for me to keep track of the art.

Thanks again for a great new direction in this fine software.

**EDIT** I just read in the other thread about plans for adding Winamp viz support through plugins - I know WA is capable of showing art from the tag. Would that be an easy way to solve this request since you're already headed that way?

How about video defaulting to full screen with click going to thumbnail instead of the opposite as it is now?

Is there a way to resume the music from power off at the same spot it left off on?..... and the ability to hold the the up/down buttons to scroll through pages instead of incremental presses (like the volume controls) would be nice. Overall I love it including the larger buttons which fit my clumsy fingers nicely....... put me in the club of those who have saved their album art in their ID3 tags, i tried to do the "folder.jpg" thing and i still cant get art to work whereas ID3 tags for my 3600+ songs are all loaded up with art

Look at how Meedio does it, simple and effective.

The program is great, but I think i will go back to 1.2 till some more updates are had. Skin in 1.2 is a little more.....friendly color wise? Ill start looking at skinning a bit.

EDIT: Did I miss something as far as the visualizations go? I see none but the coverart
Here is a prime example of what i was talking about as far as the media goes

This just happened, I was listening to green day a few hours ago, switched into hibernation. I come back and turn it back on, open centrafuse.

Ok, I dont want to listen to greenday anymore, which is what is on, so I want to change to another artist. These are the steps in which I have to take to get to another song.

    Click media (its on greenday)
click the little three line manager icon thingy (takes me to playlists, which i have none)
    click library
    click directories
    click artist
    click album
    click track
    load

See? That is what we are talking about, wayyyyy too many clicks for driving...

My music directory is organized like this

    D:\Music\Artist\Album\01-blahblablabh.mp3 and so on
2000 Sunfire build 100%, or is it ever really 100%?

That is only the first time... After that you are sitting in the media screen, which you can tell CF to Auto start in Media and it will do this at startup.. So if you want to change, after your first load... simply do the following...

    click media manager (line thingy)
click album (it is still in your library under albums because it's right where you left off)
    click load

that is 3 clicks... I use hibernation so I never have to do that more than once...

Then something is different between out setups, because that is what i have to do each time.

If I want to go to another artist, I have to jump through each of those screens everytime.

If I restart centrafuse, it comes up into the greenday folder, which is fine, but to get to another folder in the directory, i have to do the steps mentioned above.

I just did it for my friends and had my friends do it

he meant as long as that instance of cf is running you don't have to go through all the steps again. if you actually shut down teh computer or quit cf, then the first time you go to select music, you will have to go through the steps you described.

Thanks for this great frontend David!

Is it possible to access the controls for music/media such as changing tracks volume and mute etc while you are running full screen GPS (Apps) mode?

I liked what you did in CF1.2 where you still can control those things while running full screen gps without first going back to menu mode.

Oh, please do tell me how to set this up if it already does so.

    Thanks!
