Dimensions are 800x600 as the name states. It's easiest to first make the skin in a widescreen resolution and then just resize it to 800x600 so that everything gets squished horizontally and stretched vertically. When you view this on a 16:9 screen, it'll look normal.

Yeah but how do i make it in a widescreen format, without constantly going back and forth into CF to check things aren't stretched?

oh i see.. but surely there must be a way to do it without having to re-size it like that because i'll lose the "crispness" of the design if i resize it.

you wont degrade the image by the resize (much), its the same way animorphic (<spelling) DVDs are made. Make your skin at 800x480 then resize to 800x600, when viewed on a widescreen it will look just as it did at the original res. What i suggest to do is start at a higher res than 800x480 like 1280x768 (or higher, what ever your machine can take i typicaly create stuff at 4k) which is the same aspect ratio as 800x480 just higher res.
