dont' get upset... I said your ideas were good... I am just not currently focused on the media manager right now, but I know it needs some improvement... I have to get a few other things done first, like integrated GPS...

Just my opinion..but I would have thought it to be better to sort out the media manager first? as this is a function that everyone uses, and probably uses 80-90% of the time while in the car. This would make it the most used function of the front end, and even slight bugs, and lack of 'the little features' such as filters (and proper shuffle!) could let down centrafuse as a front-end in some peoples eyes.

In my opinion the rest of the future features take second place to the media manager as users will happily embed other GPS programs for now. People would want to be able to play music easily and effectively in their cars, the rest should wait

thats 2 ppl that are saying it dave !

how does coldfusion feel about my suggestions?

i dunno dave... i have a software company too. if we werent busy doing this healthcare ****, i'd do one of these front ends...

the 3 list view thing on one window seems to work well logistically

i got lots of ideas - i'll give em to you, take or leave them!

    playlist jumping:
so i have this huge ****in playlist or i'm shuffling all music and oh snap son its jigga my nigga. i love jayz but not this song. So i touch the area on top that has jiggas name on it. open pops a mini media manager with jayz's albums (which can be switched to track view for those who like that). at this point i can add these to the current playlist, or "jump" all or selected albums and songs into another temporary playlist. this playlist functions as any other, but you cant jump further from here. once ur done, you can hit the jump back button, and go back to ur playlist at the same point you were.

damn its that new lifehouse album, i want to listen to the whole thing! click on album art (which should be next to the album info on the top) and a mini media manager opens with the tracks for that album. add to current or jump!

ever hear of the phatbox? pretty cool stuff: check out what it can do:

dave- put the gps away. get centrafuse to be the best at handling music, what we ALL use it for. Get a strong directory browsing mode for people who like that (cause ur losing users to nmc, frodo, and rr). Take up my ideas for music management. Make an option to use either or, because ppl that are directory based fans rarely use media managers (because of their lack of organization ). make centrafuse the ****.

**** just make it so all these features can be on any screen and ppl will skin the program the way they want it.

The media manager changes are nothing from a programming standpoint... It's the design.... My partner is working on the new and final design, which is where the media manager updates will be made... I will have all these other plugins long done before the design is finished, which will take some time... so things like GPS will come first... sorry...

note: and GPS is almost just as important as music... GPS is the only reason lots of people put computers in their car....

    Exactly...

I personally feel that most important thing right now is to get plugin infrastructure ready with new version... so people unhappy with mediamanager can write their own and override included one.

It seems to me main functionality of front end is managing the interaction between included plugins and independent programs. AND TO LOOK GOOD, thats my reason to select centrafuse. Ok now i know that there will be like ten people saying it can be skinned... well heres newsflash for u: skinners here are amateurs!

9? seems it takes only two... cf is the proof.

But, u mentioned u r programmer, right... so when 1.5 comes out... with weather plugin as example of SDK use... then u can make mediamanager exactly way u like... and better yet... if u make it public. i promise that ill give a try. Cause i agree with u that current one is bit problematic. But i would be sorry to see david and that other dude waste their time with something so trivial than MM.

Im pretty new in this carputer scene, but i know a thing or two in computers so my first perception of this scene was nice interoperability of independent software modules... however it was bothering me that for example every program had different OSK with them. So i was going to suggest about founding some semi-formal group in this forum called carSIG acording to similar groups in other fields of computer science. Which duty would be after open debate to draft standards for interfacing between frontend and support software for example... so that in case of OSK all support software (which follows the standard) could invoke OSK provided by front end. But now it seems that cf and its SDK and plugin infrastructure are quite well answering that and similar integration problems. Not to mention that other frontends are light years behind especially visually, so who even would consider interfacing something with them
