    Suggestion for media manager etc

I tried frodoplayer and it is cool in the way it does alot of stuff, but centrafuse is still the best i feel with media manager...

i posted this in the frodo forum, read it tell me what everyone thinks... if it could be doable that would be awesome!

The VIEW BUTTON is a toggle switch between Album View and Track View
The "A" next to genre and filter 2 is an "ALL" button so you can not filter by that attribute (ie. select hip hop as genre then hit filter 2's A button and get all hip hop, otherwise choose artist then drill it down). All genres then filter by album, then there would be no need for an "album view"

the "FAVORITES" button is also a toggle button, that would filter out all songs that werent a favorite... so technically you could really drill it down, to say show only the tracks on an album by an artist taht are your favorite. Switch genre to hip hop, artist to jayz, switch to track view, and throw on favorites and you see all your favorite jayz songs.

Reset will reset the filters to default (which could be customized?). LOAD ALL is a cool way to just automatically load every song into the queue quickly

i would say probably that it would be better to separate the video and audio, if at least by a toggle switch.

let me know how you feel about it, i'll also post it in centrafuse site to see if they could do it too if theres lots of opposition here
Centrafuse is intuitive in that it does this practically already... i was just thinking this maybe a better more efficient way to organize this data. Frodo's advantage is the on screen filtering... i.e. the FILTER 2 box. You can see the artists as you drill down the list...

basically what i'm looking for is either one of the vendors to combine the ideas and make it real strong, i figure its easier for centrafuse because its practically there?

alternative views of the album view to tile mode like the current view except no titles underneath to make it look sharper?

    forgot most important thing!!!

a button for text filtering!!! i hate that i have to go thru a-w to get to Xecutioners when doing artist view even within genre of hip hop...

give me a button that once hit a keyboard pops up and i can type in 1 letter to hop/filter to that, then clear it when i dont need it!

after an album is selected, or if you chose to filter by albums, the "track view" would be just a listing of tracks like it is now

those are some good ideas... it's a little too complicated for use in the car while driving IMOP... I don't believe you should give this many options to a driver, it's just not safe... Also the layout you show will not fit well on a 7" screen... I original designed something similiar, prior to 1.2, and you only get a couple of options per list view, not efficient enough... also to fit all the other buttons they have to be way to small...

some of the ideas are good... I have always had the plan to add some filtering to my listviews... I also plan to spend some time improving the media manager....

Soo many options ??? I think this can be the least i need to have to organise my 275Gb of music in my car. And i also think this will be the least you need to offer to people with 10Gb of MP3. Because 10Gb can be a lot of mp3

    Just my 2cents

    i agree with m-ruiter

its probably better to have more filters/functionality because the current method is the one thats not great for driving. like i said in the post, i have to scroll thru everything to get to the last stuff inthe alphabet. Filters would help!

as m-ruiter said, you have lots of files to sort through. And, i use media manager mostly when i'm not driving, setting up the queue.

seriously... check out the screen shot from the frodoplayer playlist creator.

all the buttons i suggested are already there, already being done on frodos current playlist manager. this fits easy on the screen.

i understand you might want an overlay, but you know what its no big deal to do a full screen thing.

you realized how much scrollbars suck tho on touch screen and put those big buttons in, thanks alot!. now that i think of it, your scoll buttons could have a single arrow > for next screen or a double arrow >> for more than 1 screen maybe?

it definitely can happen without a snag i feel. better use of the real estate and more efficient browsing.

I just feel as though the suggestions i made are the way i would naturally want to browse for music.

dunno, toss the ideas around abit - see what the users want!

and just to throw it out there - the big buttons and current design is honestly a little confusing. you have to get used to the logic first, so theres a learning curve.

the changes made to the media manager from last time negatively effected its efficiency... i.e. does "load" load the queue or the current album? do i save the playlist in the queue while playing or while designing? if i want to just add songs do i have to navigate to the queue then hit load?

also, i feel theres alot of unused space - skins could help that of course

i dont want you to feel like i'm bashing you, you have the best ideas so far for a media manager, i'm just throwing my 2 cents in to try to improve it! i wanna see it succeed!

having some empty space is a good thing and a must... if you study interface design you should never fill up every single piece of empty space with something... you have to have some negative space for things to breathe...

like I said... I plan to improve on the media manager, but I don't believe I will go to a double list view design...
