David, do you mind if I butt in and ask users to comment on the reception as well as state the model that they use? It will also allow users that arent convinced on one unit to make a choice (potentially narrowing the number of different cards with average reception you must support)

    I use the Icom PCR1000..
unfortunately i'm probabilly the only one.. so I don't expect to see a radiator for it but it would be nice...

it's actually more of a scanner... but works great for am and fm..
    and it's serial...

however since i am "alone in the crowd" on this one.. i would put up a few bucks to get this done..

Wow, that looks like a cool toy. Can you pick up Police communication on the road? How much did you pay for that?

yes, it does police band as well, along with air, SW and others..
I love it when i'm picking up ppl at the airport... i know i have 20 minutes to get to the terminal from when i hear the flight number cleared for landing.. :-)

I am a ham and i am actually liscensed to talk to PD/FD etc during an emergency (OEM) so i have to have all the toys.. just trying to keep the antennea farm on the roof to a minimum.

i actually forgot how much i got it for .. but it was before 9/11 and the cost was a bit cheaper..
just did a search and i see it from 500 - 540 (USD)
there is a new version announced, but no FCC approvals yet.. (PCR-1500 or R1500(with head))
no prices on these yet tho...but the new ones are USB not serial..
(may be time for an upgrade)

So how do you use it? With the delivered software?
Is it connected to your car antenna?

I just purchased Radio Xtreme for the CarPC I'm putting together.
'not sure how it works yet, but I have seen enough positive reports to make this my radio solution, since I will be removing my factory radio to make room for the LCD.
