well because a slider it not implemented yet.. david should code it first.. and I hope he does.
okay I don't really get this. Why can't CF have two skins, one with the FF/RW buttons and one without so people can pick and choose.

Honestly im not a guy who mostly misses FF/RW buttons... i can do very well without them, but i can understand very well that these are important to somebody... and while being in software business key thing is to please as many as u can... so i cant really... no matter how much i try... to see any reason not to make them possible with different skin design... or atleast as hotkeys...
I do plan to make hotkeys for fastforward/rewind so people can wire them up and use them with steering wheel controls...Originally Posted by P3rv3rt B3ar

That is very good news... also hotkeys support needs boosting otherwise too... if im not completely mistaken, it seems to me that theres not hotkey even to nav in current release... might be oversight on my part though... because i still have 1.5 in-car use.Originally Posted by veetid
Ok guys, I'm not complaining or giving any opinions here, I'm just curious...
Why would anyone prefer FF/REW over a slider? What advantage does holding a button have over pressing exactly where you want to go in a song? Is it just for really tiny jumps forward/back? What about 30-second skip-ahead / 15-second replay?
To me it's like someone saying they prefer to turn a knob on the TV instead of using a 10-digit remote control.
i like to turn the knob on my tv.

Very simple. When you're driving, you want something quick and stationary to hit to jump your music ahead and forward by nudges. Using a slider would require a few things. First, you would have to glance down at the screen to find out where teh slider is currently on the bar, then you need to figure out how much ahead or behind you want to go, then you have to (Very dexteriously) point precisely on the bar that the slider knob rides along to get it to move. If you have fat fingers, you'll be playing the all to famous "mixer knob disco" that you currently have to go through to get your EQ set Precisely at the positions that you want them.Ok guys, I'm not complaining or giving any opinions here, I'm just curious...

...with buttons set at 10 second intervals, you click a stationary point until you get to where you need to go. you lose that 9 seconds of precision, but it saves you the risk of losing attention on the road for that time.

Ok, but so you at least agree that TiVo style skip/replay is much better than having to hold FF/REW buttons. Tap tap tap is much better for a car than holding. Personally, I have no problem glancing at the screen for half a second so that I only have to tap once rather than multiple times (I would have to glance for just as long to make sure my finger was lined up with the FF/REW buttons anyway).
Also, you don't really have to know where the slider currently is... you don't have to drag the slider at all... you just touch on the slider where ever you want it to move to. If the slider was on the very bottom (or top) it could not be easier and you wouldn't have to look at all. Tap the bottom left of your screen to go to the beginning, tap the bottom right to go to the end, any place in the middle and you instantly skip to that much percent of the song. Right? A slider seems by far the best car interface to me.
Slider all the way and even if you didn't want to add it to your skin please just add this simple of simple features in so I can make my own skin with it...
