I like this idea! David, pleaaaase have a look at this, getting centrafuse to sound as good as it looks would be awesome!
hey azzurro, i saw the diyaudio thread too, but the thing is just too cpu expensive for our processors. that guy was running it on a p4 and having issues with it.
i dont have the time right now but i'll look into the the other thread. thanks!

Count me in; though even support for Winamp enhancement plugins, which David apparently thinks is possible, would be a huge step in the right direction.
I have been doing a great deal of work on my carpc this week to get something like the DIYaudio post. That was before I saw the article. It is true that the processing of audio the way we want takes a serious machine with a $700 sound card to be perfect. The way I have done it uses my amd 2000+ to the max and I have to set the drivers to have almost 2 seconds of latency between when you stop and start the audio. This is to prevent skipping.
Because of the fact that I am stuck with winamp for the roadrunner frontend I am trying to get as close as possible to the DIY audio one. If you can use winamp in centrafuse then you can at least get fairly close to what we want. The things that would probably not work on our slower machines are FIR type of vst plugins. There are other types that sound almost as good and on most car stereos you may not be able to tell a difference. We are talking about the best versus REALLy good. Check out this comparison of several plugins and the different types.
http://emusician.com/dsp/emusic_plugging_eq/
The FIR ones that are discussed in the DIY article according to THIS article are: "in addition to being CPU-intensive, FIR EQs generate significant latency as an inherent part of their design. The latency is enough to throw an equalized bass part completely out of time relative to the unequalized drum tracks."
There are various vst plugins that can be added to winamp with the "winamp vst bridge" winamp plugin. A few of them like anwida's 31 band equalizer discussed here:
http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72613
are pretty good since they have many bands and give you a large amount of changes that can be made. Others are better but I have yet to see one better than this with more than 10 bands. Sorry for all the info crammed together. Hope this helps someone and is on topic. I have a tendency to stray!![]()
i wonder if this would work? it's a bridge for directx and vst plugins.

actually i don't think so.
This 'bridge' can only be used if your program (cf) already supports vst or directx.
I think there are more vst plugins around than directx...
to comment on the Echo support, still haven't got a reply on my questions from last week on their new audiofire12, where as EMU responded immediatly.
Their 1820M has been in the top ranking of Steroplay magazine, only topped by the Lynx2. This card is imo the best solution today to get high-end audio in car and most-likely superseedes Alpine processor.
Here's the email:
delay, time correction / DVD??
You can use the feedback and hf-rollof controllers to adjust the delay effects so that you get only one delayed signal added to the original signal instead of multiple ones. If you also set the effect strength controller completely to "WET" then you will get only a delay without an echo.
Since the E-MU Digital Audio System Driver 1.82 in combination with the E-MU PatchMix DSP Application patch V1.81 you can receive up to 7.1 Surround Sound with the 1820/1820M:
- In PatchMix DSP click on the ?New Session? button and select the ?5.1 DVD Playback? session from the ?44k / 48k? list.
- There is no preconfigured session for 7.1 playback, because there are currently no DVDs mixed in 7.1 available on the market. To receive a 7.1 Surround Sound signal (which has been upmixed from a 5.1 source) you can add the additional ?WAVE 7 / 8? strip to the ?5.1 DVD Playback? session.
- For multichannel DVD playback you also have to set up your DVD software player in the audio settings for 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. Settings in your DVD or audio software player such as ?S/PDIF?, ?Passthrough? or ?Bypass? will result in no audio as the E-MU cards have no own decoder or upmixing feature integrated.
- The incoming Surround Signals will then be routed directly to the physical outputs. If you want to make further adjustements (e.g. delay
time) you can use the effects in PatchMix DSP.
- The 1820M fully supports hibernating.
- There is no native driver. You will need to install the driver from the installation CD coming with the card plus PatchMix DSP. There will be no Windows startup sound as PatchMix DSP will be loaded afterwards.
- If you want to use a VST plugin then you will need to use a software capable of loading it (such as Cubase) as you can not load a VST plugin directly into the soundcard. If you do not install these software then you will not be able to load a VST plugin.
that is odd, i got the exact opposite from echo and emu. echo got back to me immediately and were very helpful, while emu pretty uch said "our product is not right for you'
anyways....lets try to keep this thread about the centrafuse and not hardware

From concert halls to bathrooms, cathedrals to sewers, you can play and sing anywhere you desire!
hey guys,
just check out the tool "spinaudio FX processor". with this you can run VST plugins without recordingsoftware. I use this for doing livsound FX at concerts but it should work in your cars too. Cool free plugins you will find at plugindex.de
