Good idea..!!![]()
i have been searching for a solution for this thing and i found somthing simple
connecting a relay to the reverse light that will make a short between tow pins of a serial cable (RS323) connected to one of com ports and when the software detectes this short it will launch an application
it will be very nice if this added to CAM plugin.
please david add this to CAM
thanks
PS: if David adds this to CAM Plugin i will show you how to make your own connector and what parts you need
It would be kind of cool... but seriously do u for second think its gonna happen?? Remember the market David is going to aim at. Do u really think he wants to be sued by every DIY-Joe out there just because they tried to connect reverse light to comps comm-port and fried it on process or better yet crash into 200k€ boat on yard cause reverse lights werent working, who do u think joe's insurance company is coming after?

Perhaps someone could build (anyone) and commercialize (MP3carstore) a cheap serial adaptor for it.
I don't think it is a very difficult option that CF would have.
it is not hard to implement at all and it will not cost more than 15$, all you need a 12V relay and RS323 cable that it, and as i said i can post a manual with pics on how to do it, and i think most of CarPC users have a little skills that will do the jobOriginally Posted by P3rv3rt B3ar

Making a function available in a software program doesn't mean you're responsible for people making mistakes building an adapter to use that function.Originally Posted by P3rv3rt B3ar

There is a hotkey for CAM now so you can easily make a small app that sends the hotkey command when it detects the change on the serial port, for now when 1.7 is released...

Here's the problem I see with the hotkey though.
Lets say that the Serial contact is closed while the lights are on, you can use that to trigger a one-time press of the hotkey (in software) which switches to the cam, but then what? How will it know where to switch back to afterwards?
This would be good to implement in CF (in a release later than 1.7 of course, but still pre-final-release!) so the software can act like a regular headunit, switching to the camera when the contact is closed, then back to wherever you were when the contact opens again.
I can easily add a go to previous section hotkey, which would temp solve that problem...Originally Posted by Jahntassa

That's a plenty good enough solution. Anyone doing stuff like this should be using Girder to automate their system. All we need is the hot keys David. (I would use one of the many parallel-port lines rather than have it take up a com-port anyway).
What about multiple CAMs for the plugin? I know you can switch now through the normal windows-style dialog, but I would like to set up a few with different names (CAM1, CAM2) and the switch between them just by clicking the CAM1 label in the plug-in. ...isn't that how it was meant to work? Will we have this in 1.7?
