    BUT... umm, LCDCenter seems to only be for serial driven panels (the editor only lets you select from COM ports)? The support in Centrafuse is for parallel devices, and it looks like you're using a parallel panel in your pics?
    try using the lcdcenter confiugurator to config it for the hd44780 chip.

    this is what that screen looks like:

    Right, but it still said COM port - I didn't actually test to see if it then worked. Hold the phone.

    Hey! lookit that... it works.

    (thanks man... sometimes I'm too attched to believing what I see on screen)

    Okay, so David.. Here's another vote that your control of the enable and/or RS line may be out of synch with the data into the port.

    With LCDCenter now working, I can do a bit more wandering...

    Starting with valid text on the LCD panel, I loaded a stock installation of Centrafuse. The result was a line of full blocks like AM's pic above.

    Increasing the stock timings by a factor of 10:
    Code:
        <TIMING>
          <INIT>60000</INIT>
          <SHORT>6000</SHORT>
          <MED>10000</MED>
          <LONG>30000</LONG>
        </TIMING>
    Didn't help, it just produced a slower "initializing blink".

    Increasing them all again by a factor of 10 (total, factor of 100) only produced an even slower initializing blink.

    Here's an interesting additional point... After exiting CF and re-loading LCD Center, LCDC is now showing text on ONLY the top line of the panel, and it's in quasi-inverse. It sounds like the panel interpreted data coming from CF as control/command codes, which again would sound like an RS line being out of sync (the data wouldn't be fully in the buffer before CF said "LATCH!").

    I hooked my lcd's back up to my pc again for some more testing after installing the latest cf release. same issues as before. I can get them to run just fine with LCDcenter, but not through CF.
    I have two of these, one is a 20x4 and the other a 16x2. both share the same symptoms as I have described before.

    I tried running LCDcenter and CF at the same time. trying to get the lcdcenter to send a sync/init message to the LCD, and hoping CF would latch on that.

    one thing of note, in the vfd.xml file, the coments suggest the ability to use "MODE" and "PLAYMODE" - two seperate things, but when I am in the set up for the vfd, I can only choose "mode"

    and finally, I prefer to know how much "time remaining" is left of the song that is playing. I couldnt care less how long the song has been playing. - especially when I have been listening to it the whole time. when I glance over to my screen, I am looking to see how long the song has before it changes. and I decide wether or not I want to skip to the next song.
    (short attention span)

    so I would request, that along with the whole VFD feedback I am posting here, that I include a feature request for "time remaining" to be added to the available options for the vfd display.

    can we bring some more attention back to this one? this character LCD is a feature I am desperate to have in my car. my dash is in peices waiting for it. lol.

    David: if you re half as busy as I am most of the time, you probably have bigger priorities than trying to fix this feature of CF, but if we can get more attention to the topic, maybe someone will have some idea of what we need to do to get it working.. anyway, keep up the good work

    time-remaining will show up on the LCD if you click it on the display in Centrafuse. It will then switch in Centrafuse and then should switch on the LCD...

    I just forgot to remove that from the XML file...

    What are the display problems you are having? I have one LCD here and it is displaying, but only on the right hand side, but it doesn't work in other LCD programs either...

    I will just need to order some LCD's to get this working basically. I need a good parallel one and a good serial one to test with to fix and add support...

    I have two lcds. one 16x2 that looks like this when I try to use it in CF

    when I use it with LCDcenter it works perfectly. see below

    I also have a 20x4 lcd that has the exact same results. works fine in lcdcenter - but wont sync up in centrafuse.

    Weird... I have one busted LCD, only have the pixels work on it, but it does display data from Centrafuse fine...

    It should be the same if the chip is the same....

    still not sure about this one or how to fix without getting all the same LCD's sent to me and some code samples on what they want done different...
