Running as a system shell?

I'm sure this is a fairly simple question, but what does it mean to run Centrafuse as a system shell?

did a search, but all I found was HOW do I run it as a shell, no explination of what running it as a shell actually is or what it actually does.

running anything a shell makes it load instead of the windows shell explorer.exe. Doing it this way makes a front end load faster and look embedded into the OS instead of just a program launched within windows. You lose your start menu bar.. but most of us arent using that anyway. You also lose the ability to set programs to run at startup thru windows. I use RR as my shell and have a batch file running all the support programs that would normally load automatically with windows.
