good luck direct xm through sats is much better then cell phone ppp any day....
Just wondering if anyone has looked into a plugin that would permit you to use XM's online radio streaming for listening to XM (vs. using an XMPCR or XM Direct)?
I have my car set to use the 3g wireless connection on my phone to access the interent, and it should be plenty quick to stream the music (I am even able to stream over my connection with EDGE & dail-up speeds). I know many people have written front-end apps to control the XM Online, so I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to build a plug-in for CF. I figure that accessing the XM this way should not interfere with any XM legal issues, and may bridge the gap for some of us until David is able to resolve the current issues with the XMPCR.
Does this sound feasible? If so, is there anyone up to the challenge of working on a plug-in for this to work?
I would offer any assistance (though I am not a programmer) and lots of praise to anyone who could accomplish this.![]()

No your wrong I would rather have nothing. Just download mp3s with your connection and listen to those on the road. Go ahead and try it but just expect poor performance. hell mine as well setup a shoutcast(WINAMP) computer with your home machine and stream from that....

I really prefer the way the net stream sounds to the massively-compressed and over-quantized sat radio stuff. Since I live in a country that doesn't have any sat radio available, and since there really aren't any "live" characteristics to most of the XM and Sirius programming, I think it's just easier to record the stream and play it back later.
I bought a subscription to di.fm and have been using StreamRipper to suck down about 12 hours at a time of the high-quality streams. In four days I have eight different "channels" of high-quality streaming, along with a giant .pls file, that will last for weeks in the car without having to repeat anything.
I'd like to make a plugin that presents these kinds of things in a radio-like format (complete with DJ announcements on channels that have them), but with the advantage that radio doesn't have: a skip button.
