Library broken when importing 6200+ songs

Hey, I just updated to the latest RC3 and it was all fine. I've also updated the mp3s stored on my car pc, so now I have 6200+ fully tagged, fully sorted mp3s in my car. When I rebuilt the library in CF it claimed that it imported 6142 songs. First thing I noticed was that it's missing at least 80 songs off that import. So I go to the media library screen to see what's going on and it's done something horrible! All my music has been shoved under "Unknown Artist" and "Unknown Album"!!! What's going on? All my mp3s have correct ID3 v1 and v2 tags with Artist, Album, Title, Track Number, Year and Genre all filled for every mp3. On top of that they are in "Artist/Album/Tr - Title" format on disk.

I've tried rebuilding the library again and same thing.

Anyone care to shed any light on this? Where abouts is the library information stored on the computer? I've only had at most 1400 mp3s in my car before, could it be something to do with the volume of the library I'm trying to create?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!!

    Robin

haven't heard this one... Have you tried just setting maybe one artist as the music folder and hitting rebuild and seeing if it works?

it's stored in the main.dat Access database file...

It appears it couldn't read your tags for some reason... Any strange permissions on the files? Is there an error.log filled with a bunch of errors?

So I should be able to open this in Access? I'll give that a go and poke around.

Only a couple of unrelated errors. I've made sure that the permissions are ok on the files and still nothing Tempted to try reinstalling CF again for kicks.

Oh and thanks for the very prompt reply!

Quick update, just looked at main.dat and you're right it's def not reading the tags for some reason, so it's updating the database with Unknown X

Yeh so I failed to tick the "replace permissions on child objects" check box so when I THOUGHT I was fixing the permissions I wasnt. With that ticked, and permissions set recusively, it's working again!

So when the files were set to read only it could not read the tags?

I will have to look into this, because it should have been able too... Or was it another permission, like hidden or system...

    Glad it works!!
