Request: Shadowed fonts

Would it be possible to add the ability to dynamically create a small/thin black shadow in the text fonts? Believe me, this will dramatically increase the readability of the text in certain low contrast conditions eg: white against a medium-light color.

If it is a hard thing to do, then forget it. I was hoping this is an easy Windows API thing!

I have tried modifying the font with a font package, but unfortunately making a font natively 'shadowed' also implies that the content of the font itself is 'clear'. Go figure. So you get a transparent/clear font body, with a black shadow...
