Forgive me if this already exists, i was going to check but ran out of the car too fast.
have an option in settings to change the mute button to an attentuation button. my old headunit had that and i always preferred attenuation instead of mute.

And instead of making it an "on-off-option" you could just make it configurable right away. Make a mute-volume-option in settings, which sets the volume to a configurable volume-% when the mute button is pressed.
Default could be 0 = mute.

Could you also make the UNMUTE procedure slowly increase volume until the target volume is reached, rather than abruptly?
I would want this REGARDLESS of the crossfading settings. I don't crossfade, but I certainly would appreciate the more subtle unmuting scheme as described above. Every audio equipment I own does it this way.
