I THINK I can reliably stop the dialog box and the resulting crash from happening if...

As soon as CF comes back from hibernation (it ends up in the XM screen), I hit a button. (I've been using the BACK button, because it effects an easy-to-see change) So, I hit a button, see it immediately turn BLUE, and then I wait for it to be acted on. It will usually take 3-4 MINUTES for this to happen, but once it does, it seems that CF is fine. I can go back into XM, change channels, pause, FF, RWD, etc and all is well.

If I DON'T hit a button, then I will get the dialog box and the resulting crash.
can you post a screenshot of the dialog that displays during the crash?

Are you using an XM Direct or XMPCR? If XMDirect are you using a USB to serial adapter? If so which USB to serial adapter?

I'll get one for you today. It's not exciting, it's just a modal dialog box with the exact text that I posted above.

XMDirect on COM1. No Serial->USB adapter.

I missed where you said what the dialog said, I don't need a screenshot...

This is strange because I tested both the XMDirect and XMPCR and both with standby and hibernation multiple times on multiple machines, plugging direct to COM ports and using USB to serial adapters...

I never had any of the issues you described...

Is no one else using XM at all or is everyone else just not having issues?

No sweat man... I got ya' one anyway:

fwiw, I had a 4-stop commute into work today, and the crash happened every time. I can make it happen just by killing the ignition while CF is in XM, letting XP & the machine Hibernate, then turning it back on. 1:30 later, crash.

I can also verify that if I click anything on-screen after coming back from Hibernate, the problem will NOT happen.

I'm up for a debugging version with log tracers if you want.

that is weird, I can't reproduce... I was finally able to reproduce the VFD issue, so I could make trace releases and got it fixed...

still trying to make it happen for me...

are you using phone control? Do you have any other sections loaded?

Nope no phone control, no camera, no radio, MapPoint is there for navigation along with the CFMapPoint plugin. In fact I "remove" any modules that I don't use if the UI lets me.

My setup has been the same since v1.7 or so... This is the first time I've see this happen.

Maybe it's related to whatever you did to fix why it used to hang? Is it possible that setup MsgBox is the result of a bogus stray pointer? (i.e., it's not really coming from a "setup").

I'll keep poking around and see what else I can come up with. Maybe Bowtie or Redian will hop back in and see if that dialog comes up if you don't touch anything after an un-Hibernation.

It would help with more users using XM giving some feedback...

Try removing the MapPoint plugin for me and see what happens...

It shouldn't be a pointer since most all the XM code is managed...

    aye.

    Hmm... 'k

I stripped it bare... I pulled out: Calc, Calendar, CFMappoint, OBD II & Stopwatch. I left only: Weather, Web, Notepad and Traffic.

I exited CF, restarted CF, ensured that those plugins were gone, went into XM. Killed the ignition, waited for the fan in the PC cabinet to stop. Turned the ignition back on, system came back from Hibernate with XM playing on the last channel.

I didn't touch the keyboard or the screen. At +1:53, the dialog box came up. I clicked OK and CF hard exited to explorer.

I don't have any USB->Serial drivers loaded (e.g., I haven't reloaded the Prolific drivers for the GPS receiver); my OBD II box isn't connected; this is a brand new license and virgin install of XP SP 2. CF was installed from scratch via the MSI after uninstalling and removing the old one.

Network drivers are loaded (Netgear WG111 thumb) but this will happen connected or not connected to the 'net.

More info that may or may not be any help...
    • When the pop-up happens, CF continues to play audio in the background. It's the last 1-sec of audio in a loop.

    • By using SysInternals Proc Explorer, I've confirmed that the dialog box _is_ a child of CF. I was kinda' hoping that it was some other process that was crapping out and crashing CF.

strange... I re-hooked up both my XMPCR and XMDirect using a USB to serial adapter and both did not cause any issues...

I am still trying to reproduce...
