I was wrong about there being a difference between 1 and 5 chars to scroll, but there is definitely a difference between 20 & 20+ characters, and w/VFD & w/VFD No Title:
    Code:
Title Length W/O VFD W/VFD W/VFD, no title
    20 chars 3% 25% 25%
    21 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
    22 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
    23 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
    24 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
    25 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
    30 chars 3% 53-71% 28%
The 53-71 jumping seems to be in sync with the characters physically moving.

I made a couple more improvements, nothing major... might see some CPU decrease...

The scrolling title just takes a lot of CPU because you have to repaint every character because they all change, so if it's a 2x20 then you paint potentially 20 characters, ontop of everything else... It was 900ms I switched it to 1000ms because it made no visible difference and made it run a little better...

    check other post

Unzip all files to the Centrafuse install folder...

I also added a flag in the vfd.xml file to disable title scrolling, just set it to false... I will add it to the VFD settings in the application in the next release...

not quite sure why the CPU is used so much sending to the LPT port, I get no CPU usage talking directly to serial ports... I am going through inpout32.dll so I guess direct LPT port access is CPU intensive... It is what LCDSmartie uses...

same CPU issue with PortIO driver as well...

It handles fine on all my machines, I have no where near the CPU issue described by midiwall

The numbers are right in ratio, but wrong in value based on my computers... but computers are different... sure you got a good processor

my slowest machine is a 600mhz P3 with 256 megs of RAM...

With a 30 char title scrolling I get a max of 44% CPU, when not scrolling I get 10% CPU...

This is even lower on my M10000, and a bit higher on my M6000...

I am playing MP3 files with no other sections of Centrafuse loaded but Media...

maybe your VFD chip takes more CPU to talk to, I have no idea...

on my 1.73 GHZ PentiumM I barely see any difference or issue with scrolling 4 titles on a 4x20, doesn't phase it at all...

maybe LPT settings in the Bios? I have no idea...

It's working though and working for all other users that have tested for me...

I added the ability to disable the scrolling so you can turn it off...

Maybe your M10000 won't have the issue...

    With CF.EXE dated 1/23/07 @ 15:24:
    Code:
Title Length W/O VFD W/VFD W/VFD, no title
    20 chars 3% 17% 25%
    21 chars 3% 56-68% 25%
    22 chars 3% 56-68% 25%
    One new bug I noticed:

    - VFD screen display option "POSITION" is "ELAPSED" in the config section

Do you mean just the display says Elapsed instead of song position? The code is write as to what it outputs though right?

your numbers are really strange... when you remove the title you get an increase from when you have the title but it's not scrolling? That makes no sense and I cannot reproduce that... Are you adding something in it's place? That might make a difference...

Sorry, I skipped a column when transposing from a paper worksheet:

    I mean...

    • Settings | VFD | Setup | VFD Output: says "Position"

    • Settings | VFD | Setup | VFD Output | Select "VFD Output Data": says "Elapsed"

The data shown on the LCD is correct in that it's the elapsed time of the track

fwiw, I just cycled through all of my BIOS settings for the parallel port ("AT", "PS/2", "EPP", "ECP") there's no difference in behavior.

I'm loading up LCDSmartie and friends now to see how they behave.

LCDSmartie shows VERY low CPU usage.

My task manager is set on a 1 second refresh and LCDSmartie may show up every third cycle. When it does, it's showing 3-5% cpu usage... The display is scrolling.

strange... I will look into it... I can't test LCDSmartie because the test display that was sent to me doesn't even work in LCDSmartie...

I already mounted my other two back into their HTPC cases, and the 3rd back into my car...

So I just have the test unit sent to me...
