    How to disable Destinator?

I would like to know if there is an option to disable Destinator... I have one old system without GPS, I will save some memory if I disable it.

I am talking about latest version... 1.1.

Is it using that much memory and causing issues? I tested on a 600mhz P3 and it didn't seem to make a difference...

It loads on startup now to try and get the speed...

Even if users/distributors don't want to use the integrated navigation they can still use a COM port splitter and if they send the GPS data to the integrated navigation I can get the speed and you can be street legal...

Other users having a problem with this?

im using a p3 600mhz with 512mb or memory, and its not bad (using the version before 1.1, didn't get a chance to update yet).
I dont notice a large difference between the 600hmz carputer or my Desktop (amd 64 3200, 1gb memory etc.) sure there was a difference in speed, but the 600mhz p3 can keep up nicely.

I'd kinda' like to know as well, basically 'cause I'm not using it (I use MapPoint) and "any additional memory/resources I can get is a good thing".

I added it to my list to make an option to completly disable integrated Navigation...

This will have to make the motion check always act like the car is in motion because it cannot determine...

What is happening different from previous versions is I now call to get the speed right after startup in a thread constantly...

This also helps even with users/distributors that want to comply with the laws, but are not using XLE... The can use a COM splitter like XPort and give the integrated NAV, even when it's a trial, and it will get the speed and properly work with the motion detection...

I will still look into a complete disable...

    Hey David,

Why not, as an option, use OBDII to get the speed for the legal compliance stuff?

Granted, not everyone is going to have OBDII hookup, but for those that do, and don't wish to use/load Destinator, or for some strange reason have OBDII and no GPS/no GPS Coverage, this would be another means of obtaining the speed data.

(This should be fairly simple, as you're still pulling speed data from a COM Port, you'd just have to look for a differently formatted string, at worse).

Also, as an added benefit, GPS speed detection can be a little hit and miss, I've been parked in my driveway and seen the speed pop up to a few miles per hour before.

OBDII seems more accurate, and thus less frustrating to a driver who's parked.

    Thanks,

    -P

Oh, and I also wanted to mention that I run a 700Mhz P3 laptop for my CarPC with 384Mb of memory, and CF w/Destinator is sufficiently zippy.

    Great work...

I plan to have a disable Destinator option in the upcoming update/release and I could consider reading from OBDII, but most don't leave OBDII cables plugged up all the time...

    Maybe some do...

I already have the call to get OBDII speed in the API, that work is done...

I did give it a 5mph buffer range for the GPS issue you are talking about...

if you are parked GPS should not mess up and jump up above 5mph...

Is there any chance that the speed could be pulled from the GPS without having destinator? I have been using the volume plugin as well and I would assume this will not work if I were to purchase the XE version.

actually it should work fine... If you used a program like XPort or GPSGate and split your COM port, then setup Navigation, even just the trial, to one of the virtual COM ports, it would read the speed...

The Navigation will still be in all the versions, it just will not include the maps unless you get the XLE version...

Ok, so it will disable entering information into the nav system when the vehicle is in motion? If so, does it disable changing music while in motion?
