CF & Hibernation Issue
Hey all -
I've searched the forums for this problem and couldn't find exactly the same issue...
I'm having problems resuming form hibernation, but it's only when I hibernate from CF using the Iginition Off setting set to "Hibernate". If I exit out of CF back to the MS Explorer shell and choose Shutdown>Hibernate from the Start menu, resuming from Hibernation works fine - I end up back in the Explorer shell.
But if I'm running CF and I turn off the ignition (or pull out the ign. wire if I'm testing in the house) it sends Windows into hibernation correctly, but when I resume, the Resuming Windows progress bar reaches the end and a blank screen comes up with a cursor showing. It flashes a few times and then it shuts down! I never see the desktop and I never see or hear CF.
I've tried updating video drivers (mobo is Via SP13000 - using on-board VGA), I've tried removing other startup apps, but nothing helps. The only time this happens though is when CF was running at the time of hibernation. I'm thinking it may be a Windows service that's not running that CF needs when resuming. CF runs fine when I do a clean boot-up though.
Try setting your "ACPI Suspend" Setting the Bios to S3 and see if that works. Then double-check to see if the "Run VGA Bios if S3 Resume" is set to AUTO. Hope this helps.
THanks for the quick reply!
I'm pretty sure my bios is set to S1&S3 - would that make a difference? And I think I do have the VGA resume set to auto. I'll go check it a lunch time.
Just curious though - why would these settings fix the issue with CF if resume already works with just Windows running?
Are you running any external applications? Try to disable some plugins by moving them from the the plugins sub directory and then hibernating while in Centrafuse. This will see if it's a certain plugin on your machine...
I tried both suggestions and then some. I think I've narrowed it down further and it might not be a bios or CF issue.
I think any software command that initiates hibernation works. If I hibernate from the Windows shutdown menu OR if I press the Hibernate button inside of CF and restart (using either the PC power button or Ignition on) Resume works fine. But if I'm inside CF (plugins didn't make a difference) and I turn off the ignition, the PC hibernates fine, but Resume shuts down before even the MS desktop loads!
So this sounds like it might be related to the M2-ATX psu's shutdown command. Are there known CF problems with the M2? I can live with hibernating using the CF button, but if I can figure out how to make CF do the hibernate/resume thing using Ignition Off, that would sure make me happy!
So David -
How does CF initiate Hibernation on Ignition Off when it receives the shutdown signal from the power supply? Where else can I check for settings? Do I need to have specific Battery settings in the XP Power section? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Never mind! I found some other suggestions in another thread & now all is well! It turns out that I had my unit set up as Always on in the XP power settings. I changed it back to the Laptop/Portable profile and the dropdown box for "What to do when I push the Sleep Button" to Hibernate (Power Button setting was already=hibernate) and re-tested: problem solved! Now turning the ignition off while in CF sends it into hibernate and turning back on returns to CF with music playing.
Unfortunately, resume still takes close to 50 seconds! :-( I guess that's my next quest! Thanks to all for direct or indirect help.
