Garmin Plugin - Starting a cash fund for whom ever does it successfully

So we are starting a cash fund (nned to figure out the specifics of an online escrow account or something) where people can donate in advance for someone to make the CF3 Garmin plugin that works.

I am willing to put in $50 on this project. If everyone who is dealing with crap garmin integration could all put in 2-5$ and we just award the first person to successfully integrate it, maybe that would provide motivation enough for someone to do this.

Any one else down for this?

The main issue is going to be getting a proper i386 SDK for the Garmin software.

There are SDK's out there but they seem to be for the ARM processors (ie mobile devices not PC's)

I think he means in the same way IGuidance is a plugin...

Yeah, but there is that element of control lacking.

There are already plugins for Garmin, but they are really just enhanced embedding programs, I imagine the iGuidance one is the same. AKA hacks.

A proper plugin would use a SDK that allows almost total control of the software, like the Destinator one supplied with CF3.

Totally correct, however if it works it works. The IGuidance plugin works damn well. The only issue is it flashes to a full screen window for a second when it's launching. Less than professional yes, but fully functional nonetheless.

Can you route to it from another plugin via address or GPS coordinates?

Can you get information out of it and display the info on pages other than the navigation one?

No. Theres no SDK. It's all just buttons and simulated mouse clicks.

You can use Garmin Mobile XT SDK with Garmin Mobile PC. You have to use the i386 compiled queapi.dll that is supplied with the software and expose the functions contained in it. The Garmin Mobile XT SDK can be found on the Garmin website, but you have to have the GMPC software to use it. So someone with way better programing experience and the GMPC software should be able to write a managed wrapper around the queapi.dll that will expose its functions. Last time I read through the SDK this dll allowed you complete access to routing to addresses and coordinates, as well as obtaining information from the GPS such as lat, lon, speed, alt, and whatever. Maybe I'll mention it to justchat.

Well my initial search only found people trying but still having issues with the it giving a wrong processor error. Maybe I didn't search long and hard enough.

Yeh the garmin developer site is pretty shoddy at best, but the documentation for all the functions in queapi.dll is given in the sdk documentation. You cannot use the files supplied with the sdk as they are compiled for ARM and cellphone processors, but since the queapi.dll is compiled in i386 you should be able to write a managed wrapper around the functions contained within it to expose them to an external application. I am by no means a programmer, but it seems feasible from this point of view. I believe there are people out there who have interfaced with GMPC in this method, but they certainly haven't posted this information on the web, or the developer forums.

Easiest way to resolve the situation would be to get in contact with a garmin developer and just ask them if it is feasible. The responses on the Garmin developer forum from the garmin employees have been consistent that you can use the Mobile XT SDK, with one referencing the queapi.dll supplied with the GMPC forum.

    EDIT:
Here is a link from the developer forum explaining how some have managed to interface with GMPC using the queapi.dll supplied with GMPC.
