I have a valentine one with a remote display I would like to keep using as I modded my cars clock to use it instead of time. My question is with this v1connect serial adapter is it a hard rule I cant use it in conjunction with my remote display or is it just not "supported". Is it known to actually break something/not even work or is it more of a cover their own *** for the company. I would like to use both at the same time because I run a carpc with centrafuse and like my remote display clock integration.

    EDIT:
Do you also know of any problems with the software using a usb to serial adapter since my carpc itx board does not have serial?

It is just not a supported feature. I have honestly not tried to connect both at the same time and see what occurs. I suspect that it would work fine though really.

As a side note though, this adapter is no longer being manufactured due to low demand. Its simply not been worth while for me to make them. This may change in the future but right now I have no plans to continue this project, despite it being the ONLY commercial v1 serial adapter.

That sucks you dont make them anymore. Who knows maybe you could work something out with Valentine and contract to them and have your adapter be purchased through them as an accessory sort of like the remote display. That way you get more exposure, people purchase the valentine then see oh I can get a remote display and a cable for carpc use. That could just be me wishfull thinking though. Also would be nice if it were usb instead of serial, most boards like my itx board dont have serial. I would have to use a usb to serial adapter which arent always 100% guarenteed to work.

If valentine wanted to sell it I am sure they would just make one themselves. As for the USB option, I actually had one designed and was going to make USB versions and stop the serial version. I even went so far as to spend the money on manufacturing 50 USB units but a error in the design has rendered them useless. Then given the lack in demand for the product I could not justify paying to manufacture more. My first batch was 25 units and that took over a year to sell out and yielded me no profit what so ever. To make more and potentially not sell them is what has stopped me from continuing production. The cost was too high for most people ($80) and that was barley making me much profit. If the demand ever returns then I will look into it, but I doubt it ever will. I get about 1 person a month asking me to make more, thats it. I even was going to partner with a couple resellers, but even they did not want to take on stock and instead just buy them as they needed them.

thats a shame because i would only buy the valentine 1 just to use your interface, hopefully you could change your mind in the future.
