How Much you want for the 10" screen?
I'm not sure if they're even out there...but has anyone ever seen an 18 bit 8.4" lcd screen? I am trying to make a deal with Euclid, who has a SHARP LQ9D161. He seems very confident that the screen is 18 bit, and 350/500 nits. Although, all of the datasheets I've seen so far list it as 12-bit, and 70 nits. Does anyone else have any experience with this screen or other 8.4" 18 bit screens?
I would be interested in trading my 10.4" 350 nit screen for it (w/ capacitive touch), or purchasing it.
I'll only give up my screen if I have another to replace it with
we have that panel (lq9d161) w/touchscreen attached, and I can assure you it is only 6 bit, 100 nits bright.
it does offer a nice picture, and is reasonably bright even through the touch, but 350/500 nits is a far reach even if the backlight was upgraded.
200 maybe w/upgrade, but I doubt it.
an 18 bit 8.4" high bright panel is available, but not cheap. if you are interested in a solution, drop me a note.
we sold an lq9d161 w/touch to a user here, so maybe he can give you his opinion of the panel as it is in his car.
we will ask his permission for contact first before posting his name.

the lq9d161 screen is 150 nits, when you use a 5w inverter... the 70 nit rating is when you use a 2w inverter...
if i remember the data sheet correctly (off the top of my head)

Motorcity - you must've meant 4 bit / color which is 12 bit. That's all that panel is. I had one and I couldn't believe the difference from the LQ9D161 12 bit and my LQ10D367 18 bit panel. It is an enormous difference. I found video displayed on the LQ9D161 to be unwatchable. That's just my opinion - others found it to be OK. No one said it was great. I found it to be blotchy. There simply were not enough colors (4096). compared to the 18 bit panel (262,144).
If you are not using video (which seems silly if you are going to the trouble of putting an LCD in your dash) then the 12 bit panel will be fine.
jzgt, the spec sheet I have from sharp indicates 6 bit.
you are right on the video part, it is less than acceptable. however, for basic pc functions, it does the job. but as you also said, not even close to the quality of an 18 bit panel.
I have seen some people in this forum refering to a kit by dennisk, it is the same panel, sharp lq9d161 or 166.
Justin - do you have that 161 PDF handy? I think you're misreading it. The only pdf I could find from sharp said this:
Besides pin out the other major difference is the number of bits per color: the LQ084V1DG21 or LQ9D340 is 6 bits per color; the LQ9D161 is 4 bits per color. Table 1 shows the differences.
The table just gives the pin assignments.
