Uh, remind me what pwm is.
I did talk to a guy named Beau. The only thing that may be a problem is the Brightness pin into the inverter should be DC, rather than PWM.
Haven't tried it yet. In fact I have the new controller in the box still sealed as well as the LCD and cables tucked away. I'll be getting around to working this out soon, though.
Back to the problem, I believe there's a switch or jumper (JP2) on the LCD1280EI that allows you to change whether to use the internal PWM or external circuit. Easiest thing to do is put in a POT to vary the BRITE voltage.
The technical term is Pulse Width Modulation.
Look at this .
Oops, I made a mistake so I must edit my post.
I disconnected the brightness control pin (to simulate 0V) and the display is still as bright as ever. For some reason the inverter is not responding to voltage changes. I even hooked up a AA battery to give it 1.5V and it still did nothing. I am gonna email Microsemi and ask.
ddogg - You guys are using the molex to get the power to the controller, right? Do you happen to know what size the barrel connector is that on that Dicon controller (PWR2)? I looked in the tech reference for the controller and came up with the recommended connector but have yet to find any info on it. I was going to go get the connector today after work and thought either you or SinnerG might know. If you don't, no big deal, I will just take the controller to Radio Shack and check them.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. How's the brightness control saga going? Any headway?

I will get the size for the barrel later today. I know it's 2.5mm and something else....
As for the brightness control, I wrote Microsemi about it but they never responded. I was hoping SinnerG could fill in the missing pieces because I am at a wall. The only thing I can think of is that the inverters are revision _01C and are a little different. The _01 have dimming, but I don't know if the C makes a difference.

I don't really see the difference, but there must be something... I have e-mailed them to ask them about it, but I doubt I'll hear anything soon - maybe the early part of next week.

Hi everybody,
I’m a newly registered member on this forum and hoping not to disturb anyone. Following this tread since a while back I decided to bid on this ALLBRITE LCD AB104PB-N-R. On a post made by V_C_F_666 he included a email reply about the LCK500 series controller board kit. I would like to know if anyone has installed it with the Allbrite LCD with the 4 CCFL’s working? And about controlling the brightness, any success with this kit?
No success getting the brightness control to work. But an engineer is looking at one of my inverters right now.
