for the rest of you, here's a simple explanation

what you think is a big triangle actually isn't a triangle. if you look at the "hypotenuse" it's actually at an angle. the difference in angle between the red hypotenuse and dark green hypotenuse is only like 0.2degrees or something like that. really hard to see. most ppl see a big triangle and then do the 1/2*base*height and they get same numbers for both figures, yet they obviously see that the bottom figure is one unit less than the top figure. hehe freaky eh?

Damn, I sooooo angry at myself for forgetting. Could have saved myself $100.
