Thats just YOUR opinion, any custom LCD manufacturer/vendor will know the prices involved in building a sunlight readable unit. Soo much money is spent on engineering these you have no idea. Email them (earthlcd.com for example) and ask them why prices are so high on these high brightness models

Yeah, i dont really need to get into proving my point/justifying my price, cuz someone with adequate experience/knowledge of LCD's would understand how and why...

You have a good point. I myself have some sharp LQ10D346's that are the exact spec as these NEC's and they are a 640X480 VGA resolution with a 18 bit digital interface ae R0-R5, G0-G5, B0-B5 plus vert, horz, and clock. 3.3V or 5V. These are both great lcd screens because they come with NO backlight. And like you I agree that the 8 bulb setup make these babies great for displaying just about all types of moving pictures or even as a touch screen. Life span on the bulbs is at 20,000hrs normally. But the main cost is in the lcd and it matching display HW & not in the lcd backlights... oops also the invertors do cost a bit too.
My questions are as follows. 1st what volyage does this complete setup run on? 12VDC? My next question is the interface is it analog vga or digital or is it a composite input. Digital being DVI NOT the old digital vga that had 9 pins on a DB9M. Please advise as the answers are. Also how does the 262K colors compare to a normal 16million display.

BTY the specs are in the datasheet that is linked to the ad. That is where I got the specs that I just posted. And they match my panels exactly except for the interface conector.

Calm. I didn't say anything about your price, did I? I was commenting on the claim that car computers being so popular would determine it's worth.

The screen can run directly from your car battery (12VDC) but the current setup right now is a laptop adapter that plugs into the standard 120VAC and out puts 12VDC 4.16A with a connector to the panel. I used this baby in my office as a digital picture frame for a while, but after a while it got annoying. No one was impressed anymore :P

As you can see from the pictures, The input is Analog VGA (15 pin) and there is no composite input. The colors make no difference in video play back, I will upload a pic later on with the sun shining on the screen and a DVD playing... keep checking my website for the pics... 262K colors is sufficient in displaying full motion video, and the jpg's are beautiful. Anyways let me know if you have any more Q's, I am taking offers right now so email me if interested.

actually, now, this screen is an overkill for a car computer, however, just as rims on cars get bigger and nicer - i am sure someone will want to install one of these screens to blind the compition...

... check ebay now for the amount of ITX related items (or any carputer items for that matter) and 6 months down the road ...

I have 2.5% Limo Tint all the way around on my Jag, and when I hooked this screen up at night, the glow from the interior of the car was just amazing...

... Reminds me of those rice burners with neon sticks and led's all over their cars lol...

This raises a question worth asking- are the backlights piled, or does each backlight light a portion of the screen? if they're "stacked" then you could concievably dim the screen by only powering some of the ?cathodes?

I bet 90+% of ITX systems are used for non car computer purposes. ITPS, well, you'd be pretty clearly right about that.
