ok this is what i came up with for the bigger hd.
dunno if any one else has tried to get a bigger hd in but. if any one can give input i would really execpt it.
http://www.volny.cz/xosl/faqhow/xosl_ez_en.html is a few programs that allow a bigger hd to be installed. but i dont really want to have 3 diffrent partions on my hd.

or im going to try this on my other house comp.http://www.fixup.net/tips/20gb/20gb.htm

if any one actually gets it to work before i do pleasse let me know. thank sam

alright guys, I found line in on this machine.

There is a little black on the motherboard. The easiest way to get to it, is to remove the upper vent fan on the left side. You can plug in a standard headphone line type cable.

Sorry for a long post - several info to passes on.

I tough the black connector on the side of the board was output... didn't fool around with it.

nevertheless, the output sound works, I tested it today. Its the sound that was passing by the cannon connector. I redirected it (see later in this post)

I did some measurments with my corolla. The whole unit will fit below the heat controls, way down to the floor. I think there is about 1/4 inch loose. The screen will need to be redirected as portrait. The cannon connector and its holder will need to be gotten rid of. All fits really straight.

I will redirect the IO connectors to the backplate, and started to get rid of the cannon connector.

if you look at this pic:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...achmentid=1673
the 3 black connections on top of the HDD unit on the upper left section of the pic are (from top to bottom) USB, Audio out to Cannon connector (black is the white LEFT channel, while the red and GND are still red RIGHT and gnd COMMON), Power (red 5VCC, GND, GND, Green/White SEAT ID (unused)).
the power passes by the fuse, I suggest to still use that.

I redirected the external fan connection as power (easier to connect then the cannon for testing) and the fake line in (that even in the specs is supposed to go directly to the cannon connector) to the audio out (for testing the audio capability).

the whole unit is working great so far.

The specs state a floppy capability. It says it could be from a connector onboard or via USB. It also states the connection should be facilitated when removing the backplate. The only connector I see is the one between the (newly found) line IN and the expansion connector that goes to the IO board. (right part of same picture as mentionned earlier)

I think I myself will take the HDD off and put it in a desktop to add the Win98SE CAB files in it. Then I will have more flexibility, even USB human interfaces requires to put the OS CD-ROM in win98- but I do not have a USB CD-ROM.

    Last fact: the picture:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...achmentid=1672
let see the place on right where is hidden the "card reader interface". I looked to the specs to find that this was the connector for an external card reader. WHAT CARD READER??? a MAGTEK 99875146 (spec:
    http://www.magtek.com/documentation/...99875146-2.pdf
this seams to be a credit card reader)

I did not test so far what heppens when the interface is missing, but I know I will not use this interface in my car.

I still have not found a serial or parallel connector on the board, which would facilitate my future tasks for interfacing with it... maybe I'll need a USB port replicator.

streetnight: I too have a lack of time for this project... I'll keep you informed as soon as I can. If you end up trying before me, I too want updfates
