Let us know if XP works.
I would like one of these as a kitchen recipe/ video survalance.
Some quick advice. Ditch the cannon connecter and open it up. All the connections you need are inside are available through keyboard style jacks. That will get rid of alot of bulk.
You also need to solder (or twist/tape) some female RCA plugs to the correct leads for sound. I'll take some pictures later of the inside of my setup to explain better. I've been messing with this thing for about 6 months
Streetknight: I've been wondering about putting a bigger harddrive in. Im using the original 6gb and an external 10gb with a USB case. This setup works, but it dosnt always see the external drive on bootup. I have to install a switch to turn on/off the usb signal once booted so it will detect. It's a cheap method but it works. I'm also going to try WinXP tonight or tomorrow. Let me know how the driver hunt goes and be sure to backup your old drive![]()

Hey all,
Great price on these babys, can anyone post pics of how far they have got in their install? Only seen one member's pic so far, im looking to see exactly how these are gonna be integrated in.
Also, how easy would it be to disconnect the screen from the mainboard "unit" or would you say thats pretty much impossible/undesirable?
Thanks,
Paolo
Ive had xp running on mine for 2 weeks now with no problems. Xp doesnt like the touchscreen software, but theres a way around it. Just transfer the program to disk, and then load it onto the xp platform, for some reason it takes this instead of loading xp over 98, i dont quite know why. I also have one with the screen lengthened from the motherboard...just lengthen the wires, easy. Yeah, you can beat the price, anywhere!
the only reason i want to use teh 20gb is cause i dont want o use a external and loose the 1 usb i have. i wanted to put in the 20gb and run it as the only hd. and use teh usb for something else (like a cd drive or what ever). but i have to get it running the right way first then im going to take it out of that heavy bulkiy case that weights 20lbs. thinking i will make it out of fiberglass and bondo(first time try it hope it works). before i do this i have to get my other projects dones.
edit: i forgot to metion, today i had a chance to play with it some more for about 15mins. the 20gb was in and boot up past the first bios screen where it reads the ram and hd and it went into where teh _ keeped blinkin. any one know what this means?. and i put in the 6gb back in.then load the xp in to the cd and it said a driver is in that does not allow the xp to load . then i just gave up and went back to work.
civic dude did u upgrade the ram?? if so what did u use?
lesliexXXXX funny u say that about survalance, i was thinking i would make it the same for my room, car monitor when im parked out side. lmk how u do it i would lkve to see it.

Best Technique In Life Is Having No Technique
ONE DAY I WILL LEARN HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER THE RIGHT WAY.
The usb is not 2.0 btw. Its 1.1. Even with the slow transfer speeds I'm able to play video and mp3 fine.
Might as well get a 4 port PCMCIA USB 2.0 card if you plan on having multiple devices. For a DVD player you need 2.0. I'll be working on getting XP installed in my free time.
thanks for all your guys comments. I don't have the time to work on this right now, but this weekend I will spend a good long time on it. I think I may have found a line in. There is this small jack that looks like the head phone jack, but it is on the motherboard. It is on the underside near the bottom left corner. I have not been able to test it as I have everything scattered all over the place.
I want to use the saem case but I will hack off the sides, and use just the bottom piece of metal has a base.
I have been taking pictures of my progress, so i will do some posting action when I get something worthy of posting action.
I used the extra laptop memory i got out of an old laptop...it was a sony vaio pcg-f560. Hope that helps. Maybe i just got lucky when i used it, i thought all laptop ram was the right kind to use. I also used the same laptop harddrive with xp already loaded. You could use a pcmcia usb card, that should work fine, and give you more usb connections.
mine did work, but i removed it to put the usb pcmcia card. i cant remember if the lights worked on mine or not. all i can say is make sure its plugged in firmly.
