QVGA refers to 320x240 resolution. It does not accept VGA signals directly. It has a digital interface and so requires a controller to convert the signals.

Or use a computer board with direct TTL connection for LCDs.

but other than expensive, underpowered biscuit PC's and the yet-to-be-released Nano-ITX, what boards have direct TTL connections for LCDs?

It depends on what you consider under-powered. Just as an example, the following board has an option of 933 MHz Pentium III processor.

There are quite a few companies that produce a wide range of embedded computers, some one them fast enought to play DVDs. And as long as the board is labelled 'embedded', it is likely to have a TTL interface for LCDs.

In the meantime, I am happy with my 200 MHz Geode which plays mp3s and draws GPS maps

    expensive and underpowered

That board, with 400Mhz and 256MB ram, $850
That board, with 933Mhz and 256MB ram, $1195

bottom line is that screen is not as inexpensive as one would like to believe

Wow, that is steep! Are these prices for the board or some kind of development kit?

The question of 'power' is somewhat subjective. Do you need a Pentium 4 to drive that watch on your wrist? But if you want to do speech recognition and play DVDs at the same time, then yes - you do need a fast CPU.

those are for the board, chip, and ram--they do not sell bare boards. for the development kit add $800

its price per cycle I refer to when I say expensive and underpowered
