so this can plug into a usb port then with the supplied adapter? is it powered off usb too?

Yes it plugs into a usb 2.0 port and no it it needs it's own 5v line to be powered from.

From the picture it looks like it is missing the front cover of it, is it? When you say Brand new does this mean you never used it? How long have you had it? Please let me know.

is this just a dvd or is it a cd burner

It's brand new had it for 3 weeks never used. It doesn't have the faceplate so one would need to be purchased or fabricated. It is a DVD Rom and CDRW.

Good luck ever finding a face plate....it would be worth it to buy a bran new one... I broke my face plate for my slot loading cdrw/dvd and i was never able to find a replacement. I ended up epoxying it back together
