I would say that you were part of the curve and not ahead of it, as several of us have been running carPC's for several years, Rob Whitney for one and myself another. Since 1998 I've had carPuters in my van running mp3's and then navigation later on....

I'm currently on my 5th rendition of a carputer....

3 in the van/vans (laptop/desktop.shuttle)
2 in my car (Asus pundit and now MiniITX P4)

If possible, you may want to up the size you are looking for and hit up Newegg.com. They usually have pretty good deals. I saw that they have a WD 80GB w/ 8MB buffer for like $61.00 shipped (until 4pm PST, 07/13/2004):

unfortunately I spent way too much cash on car mods and have little left over to get a hard drive for my carputer. So I was lookin for a used one about 40gig, if that deal is still around by next paycheck, then...

so in the mean time if someone has one they arent using...
