    * nester looks for the capital n in nester.

    Dear George Oberg,

I suppose this forum is for selling things. However, I believe it's more for the members of the mp3car.com community to sell things they have. Just because you can sign up for the BBS doesn't mean you're a member of the community. Do you even have a "mp3car"? My impression is that this forum is for things like "Hey, i have a DC-DC PSU i'm not using anymore, anyone want it?" (However, I could be wrong. If this is the case, would a Mod please call my bluff?)

I don't know if you noticed but MP3Car.com sells things.. you might be on someone elses turf.

I'm not a moderator or staff or anyone special here, but you post info about this thing into at least two forum on the BBS, telling people that they can buy the unit at http://www.netaccessories.net/, a domain that you are the Administrative Contact and then try to tell people that it's not spam and that it's not an AD. I am dubious. It's probably not my place to tell you what you can and can't do, but I am almost certain that I'm not the only person that dislikes this type of purpose. Coming in here to see targeted marketing to my fellow bbs members of a sub-par product is not what I want to see. If I was interested in stuff like that, I would read USENET.

I don't know what the big deal is. My understanding fo spam is like gambling pop up ads and porn being sent to your email. This is a product i am making the community aware of. You don't have to buy it. I'm not shoving it down your throat. I put the mfg site and my site with $$$ info. Then i asked for opinions on the product and its possible uses. How could anyone post an opinion without the info i provided. You obviously think this is a "subpar product" and i respect your opinion although you have given no reasons for why you feel that way. This is a bulletin board. People post stuff on it. Just like at school or church there are bulletin boards with all sorts of stuff posted on it. If someone is posting a dog for sale on the bulletin board at church are you gonna seek this person out and tell them their wrong because you don't want a dog. Let's try to lighten up a little here if youre not interested, skip it. I'm sure the mod would've deleted these posts if they were spam. Also check out gabriele's post in the for sale column look interesting???

*shrug* the straw that breaks the camel's back.

i did make my comments about the product on the other post in general. It's sub-par as I would not use it as a desktop due to the low quality of the components (video, sound, etc). The only application that I would consider the item to be suitable would be in the car. However, the unit is much too expensive to be practical. If this thing breaks, I can't afford to go out and buy another, however if my mother board goes out, I can pick one up cheap. My whole player has a street value of ~$300.

From Jargon File (4.2.0, 31 JAN 2000) [jargon]:

spam vt.,vi.,n. [from "Monty Python's Flying Circus"]

    1. To crash a program by overrunning a fixed-size buffer with excessively large input data. See also (buffer overflow}, {overrun screw}, {smash the stack}.

    2. To cause a newsgroup to be flooded with irrelevant or inappropriate messages. You can spam a newsgroup with as little as one well- (or ill-) planned message (e.g. asking "What do you think of abortion?" on soc.women). This is often done with {cross-post}ing (e.g. any message which is crossposted to alt.rush-limbaugh and alt.politics.homosexuality will almost inevitably spam both groups). This overlaps with {troll} behavior; the latter more specific term has become more common.

    3. To send many identical or nearly-identical messages separately to a large number of Usenet newsgroups. This is more specifically called `ECP', Excessive Cross-Posting. This is one sure way to infuriate nearly everyone on the Net. See also {velveeta} and {jello}.

    4. To bombard a newsgroup with multiple copies of a message. This is more specifically called `EMP', Excessive Multi-Posting.

    5. To mass-mail unrequested identical or nearly-identical email messages, particularly those containing advertising. Especially used when the mail addresses have been culled from network traffic or databases without the consent of the recipients. Synonyms include {UCE}, (UBE}.

    6. Any large, annoying, quantity of output. For instance, someone on IRC who walks away from their screen and comes back to find 200 lines of text might say "Oh no, spam".

The later definitions have become much more prevalent as the Internet has opened up to non-techies, and to most people senses 3 4 and 5 are now primary. All three behaviors are considered abuse of the net, and are almost universally grounds for termination of the originator's email account or network connection. In these senses the term `spam' has gone mainstream, though without its original sense or folkloric freight - there is apparently a widespread myth among {luser}s that "spamming" is what happens when you dump cans of Spam into a revolving fan.

what does your $300.00 setup consist of? Instead of trashing this product do you have any suggestions of something i could build or purchase that is similar and portable. Also see my last post in general hardware discussion for explanation of what i do and why.

i came to this site for info on "computer in car" as of now i do not own an mp3 car. My current system consistes of Sony ES h/u, Sony ES 4ch amp. Ch3&4 bridged to power 12in boston sub, ch1&2 power Boston pro 6.5 seperates. Everything is self installed, box is self built of 7ply cabinet grade birch. In a 95 jaguar. Not the easiet install car. I see Alpine,Clarion, QPC stuff in all the car audio rags and thought why not build my own multi media car audio. So here i am. I sell stuff so i can buy stuff to fulfill my desire for stuff.

The difference between your post and hers? is right in her post she said "I might be able to begin selling a VERY tiny PC" letting people know right away that she was the one selling it not just telling people to check out this site (and not mentioning that you are the one running the site unless you look at your profile and posting the same thing in multiple forums on the board are what makes yours SPAM!
