The honest answer is "I don't know!" However, nothing I've seen tells me there is a real difference. I suspect that whatever difference there might be is subtle or a matter of opinion.

I know that the CCD board is identical between the 2x Zoom Color version and the 2x Zoom B&W version. I believe the CCD chip itself if from the same Sony family too.

I have noticed that the color version isn't as great as it sounds like it should be. There's no color information received from the IR lamps, so this looks more like black and white at night. When a scene is partially lit with visible light and also by IR, it looks funny because it doesn't match what your eyes see. During daylight or other visible lighting, colors look washed out or un-natural because the camera is displaying IR light that's present but your eyes aren't seeing.

In my experience IR cameras are better suited to a B&W image. I had mine color for a while, however like mark said.. things look strange.. and I prefer the B&W over the strange green hue IR images have.

    A matter of preference, really..

I'm tired as all hell, and have work early.. but I'll get that PM off to you tomorrow night, Mark.

Since I only just started assembling the NiteMax cameras last night, a special opportunity has presented itself. EVERYONE WILL BE GETTING UPGRADED TO A COLOR CCD! Yup, you heard it right... All 20 will include a color CCD. (Unless you tell me you don't want it!)
Woohoo! Looks like Christmas is coming twice this year!
    Great news, Thanks Mark!!

The limiting factor that continues to be a problem is the lack of power supply boards. For this reason alone, there will be no more completely assembled NiteMax cameras.

I know a bit about the Power Supply Board and you can make everything work by using a substitute. If you can provide a regulated source of 12-Volts DC (like from a computer Power Supply) you have everything you need to operate the CCD and LCD. An adjustable supply is needed to have adjustable IR, but running the IR full-blast all the time might not be so bad! With a little creativity, you can have all of the NiteMax functionality!
Hey Mark, can you give more info out about this? i m interested how complex the power source can get, as i understand that will be all we need to get a working nitemax. looking forward to your info

    Hi Mark,

I haven't logged in for a while. Are we supposed to send the pmt for the camera and any additional stuff right now or wait till you are done with assembly?
