Wanted - 20 Pin Electrical Disconnects

Okay I don't know if this is a long shot or not but I'm not too good at searching Mouser and Digikey and so on. I need some 20-pin disconnects, ideally where the two parts screw together so there is little stress to worry about. They will be used to reconfigure an OBD cable for different purposes so I'll have the "Reader end" and the "Car end" then short adaptor cable in the middle which will join the two via the 20-pin connectors.

Anyone have anything like this? Or enough know-how to tell me what to buy?

An alternative might be 20 banana plugs and jacks but the solution wouldn't be as neat. Any other 20-pin disconnect solution would also be of interest!

    Chris.

Why not use a D-Type 25-Pin connector like the older Serial Cables used to be?

They're available male and female with solder-cup pins to solder wires to. Even the protective hoods are commonly available. The most difficult part would be the female version of the strain-releif but these should be available too.

or, how about male and female ATX connectors?
I chop the male cables off dead psu's , have about 6 and I have 1 or 2 female/male extenders.

I'm a little concerned about stress on the connectors as they would be run from a laptop to the car, the cores inside the cable are very thin so I don't know how well they'd hold in ATX connectors. The serial connectors look like a neat solution though, very promising. Thanks all for the suggestions so far, lots of food for thought!

Something that I did is this for my entire system:

    Docking Port For Entire System

Digi-key makes smaller connectors if you don't need one so big.

Did you try Radioshack? They have Molex style connectors of various sizes and styles.

I think they only go up to 9 pin and there's no strain relief on them. I'm thinking the DB25 DSUB might be the best choice, I'll see if RS has those.

    Thanks!
