a bit of detail about what you're looking for for the CarPC would help others out.

There are literally thousands of configurations for CarPCs, just like desktops or laptops.

I'd really suggest figuring out what you need first and then post up specifics.

I'd also check out the other threads in here where folks are selling their PCs. Make the effort to go to them and I'm sure you'll get results a lot faster.

Thanks. I am just looking to see what members may already have that they are just wanting to get rid of. I have no exact specifics, aside from the fact that I want wifi, at least 1.5ghz processor, and a power supply that can turn off with the car. Even those things can be purchases if need be. I am just looking for a decent deal on one already assembled.

ok - I have to ask if you're familiar with CarPCs at all. The reason I ask this is that most CarPCs right now are not 1.5 GHz. Most are using the VIA chips which just not top out at 1.5 GHz. Most common is 1 - 1.2 GHz. In order to get a 1.5 you will need to go to a core duo/core 2 duo/pentium processor. That requires more power and creates more heat than do the VIA boards.

RE: the PSU - just about every DC-DC PSU has a SDC.

How big of a HDD do you need? How much memory? Do you need it in a case and if so, any particular size? Do you need PCI slots? PCIe? MiniPCI? Optical out for the sound? What kind of optical drive? etc.

WiFi is a given. To get that all you would need would be a USB WiFi dongle. That shouldn't be a requirement that you put forth as it's extremely easy to add on yourself.

Again, I suggest coming up with a few details about what you need in the PC before going much further.

I'm only saying all of this because all too often people come onto this board expecting to pick up a PC and walk away with it. Take it to a shop and have it installed in a matter of a day and be done.

Unfortunately CarPCs are not quite to that level yet (We're working on it though).

Then, a few weeks later, they show back up here either trying to find solutions to the numerous problems they are running into or selling their solution because they realized that there's a lot more to it than just slapping a HU in a car and moving on to the next thing.

I understand that. That is why I am looking for something already assembled. I already have the shop doing the work, and I know it isn't just going to take a few days. I am definately not new to the install game. I am however a little new to carpc's, as this is the first one I am trying to set up. The only thing that I know, is that I need at least 1.5ghz or equivelent speed processor to run wifi at a decent rate of speed. Other than that, I will take what is pieced together. Here...I'll try and break down something of what I'm THINKING of. But like I said, I posted this to see what may already be together that someone has lying around, and not using. That is why I wasn't being specific.

1.5ghz or equivelant processor
at least 40gb hard drive
Small enough case to hide in behind the dash
power supply that will turn off with car
Not sure about any of the PCI slotting etc



I am no expert on the matter, just trying to build something to go good with what I will have (already have most of this, aside from what is listed as WTB):

1 x 10" touchscreen in dash (WTB)

2 x usb ports ran to dash for flash card, camera, etc

How small is that? Measurements would be helpful.

I imagine that's going to cause a lot of problems for a few reasons:
A) heat
B) size
C) wiring

not many of these PCs come with 4USB ports already avaliable. Many times they require a header to add them...I'd suggest going with a USB hub in this instance and scratching the 4port requirement off of your list.

I'm not sure where the requirement for 1.5GHz for wifi came from...I'm using a 1.2 and have no problems. didn't have any problems with me 1GHz either before this one.

Have you thought about how you were going to hook this up to the audio system? What about for video? Will you be doing movies? DVDs? MPEGs?

It sounds like you really don't want to take the time to learn about all of this. If that's the case, I with you the best of luck, it's not going to be fun.

You can customize your own PC right there and have it on it's way to you in no time...probably faster than waiting around for the next person selling a complete solution since you seem to be in a hurry.

It's not that I donb't want to learn about it...I do. But I am being pressed by the shop to get them the stuff ASAP, and I'm over in the desert, and don't exactly have all the access to research. I had to request permission to access this site here. I can't even access the store portion. It shows up as "blocked-Merchandising"

And the pc is going to be behind an access panel. they are building a complete custom dash setup. I am not sure of the exact measurements though. If need be, it could always be mounted in the casing area they are building into the rear setup. Yes, this will be used for DVD, music, MPEGS, and as my full audio system. What you see listed is what I was told to buy (aside from the PC). I got the 1.5ghz from a friend of mine who build PC's (home mind you). He told me that in order to get the iternet speeds I want, along with the other stuff, that is the size I would want.

A tablet PC my be something that would work for you. They are small "laptops" but use a smaller screen with touch capability and are extremely easy to read in direct sunlight.

I just got this message from a member named Turbocad6. He loves tablets in general. You just seperate the screen from the body. Hardwire it into the car with a DC-DC PSU and a few other things. The tablets he's talking about below are like $510 on ebay, 60G HDD, 512 RAM, built in wireless LAN, etc...

"also, don't know how you ever made out with your screen, but I just found another really sweet 10.4 screen... it's not even just transflective, but it's fully reflective!... it comes in what used to be a really expensive Fujitsu tablet, the st5031....

they used to be untouchable under $1,500, but Fujitsu direct is listing them one after the other on ebay, I got one for $835... it is a full tablet though with a 60gb laptop drive, a Pentium m ulv 1.2 processor(much faster than it sounds) ram, including windows tablet ed....

considering a Lilli transflective alone is over $600 I think these things are a really sweet deal... the LCD alone is worth more than half the price easily, you could either dissect it & use the whole thing as your carpc, or take the good LCD out & put a cheap LCD back in & resell it & get most of your money back, the LCD would wind up costing you a few hundred with that route...

there is nothing else like these lcd's..., it even blows away the hydis as far as sunlight readability.. they are 100% viewable under the most extreme lighting conditions & they don't even have or rely on a backlight at all.... they are front lit for nighttime viewing... sick stuff... I'll have mine Tuesday & take it apart for details like how thick the rim is & stuff if your curious"

More good to know stuff from you man, lol. Now, looking at the screen on this, would I be able to turn it sideways since it's made to be longways? How hard would this be to disect and run the monitor to the dash?
