Carnetix 2140 - PSU?

Hi Guys,

I think I made a big mistake, or at least a large oversight. I was looking at replacing my power supply which fried (Opus 120W) with this Carnetix 2140, I like the USB monitoring and software package.

Now I've got it I'm going...duh where do you hook up the 20 pin connector from the motherboard.

Of course I'm going to need some sort of PSU...I'm looking for suggestions on a cheap, good quality PSU.

I like the idea of the PicoPSU and it's cheap...question: is it OK combination as it's getting regulated power from the 2140?

Any suggestions and what you're using for the PSU. I'm custom making the case so any suggestions on just getting a PSU?

I'm hooking this up to a Via Epia SP13000

Much appreciated, I can't believe I didn't do my homework on this one. Hopefully someone can help me out with this one. I miss my carPC

You did screw up. The Carnetix is not an ATX-compliant PSU. It provides a single regulated voltage (user-selectable).

I'd see if you could return your Carnetx (or possibly resell it) and get a beefier Opus unit or a DSATX or an M2ATX perhaps.

IMHO, the PicoPSU is suspect in my eyes. I think you'd be better off with one PSU that does everything you need, including statup/shutdown, voltage regulation, etc.... Just liek your Opus did.

Yup, looks like youre screwed, that really sucks man. Unless you have a Dell SX260, 270 or some thing else along those lines it wont work. These computers although desktops, use a power brick like a laptop or an XBOX 360 so you set the power to +20V. As I understand it the P2140 provides three power options, to three devices. If you would have posted this a little sooner I would have bought this off you but I just picked one up my self and its on the way. Good luck man.

m2atx doesn't do everything?

where could i buy the Opus thing in Europe?

I don't know where you drew that inference. I didn't even imply that.
The M2ATX is an all-inclusive DC-DC PSU.

Here's a question... If you have an M2ATX, why would you need/want an Opus? They are both full-function ATX-compliant DC-DC power supplies.

Ummm. Yes you did.
