P2140 Standby with USB

I have the Carnetix P2140 (1.8.3) connected to my PC, and use the USB connection with the Psumoni software to shut down. I've set the soft jumpers to Standby, but it still shuts down. I can put my PC in standby by pressing the power button, by selecting standby from the start menu or by using standby from within RoadRunner. The PC starts automatically when power is restored. Is there something in the setup that I am missing??? I would love to be able to use Standby instead of shutting down and going through a cold boot.

Is the computer actually shutting down, or is the Carnetix killing the power?

I *think* it is shutting down. All power is cut within approximately 30 seconds after I turn the key off. Is this information written to a log?

All power being cut isn't necessarily a shut down, you should hook up the USB connector from the 2140 to another computer and monitor it's behavior. I'm thinking you changed the soft jumpers but didn't hit the update button and it's still set to turn the power off.

I definitely hit the update button - the light prompts you to update after any change to the soft jumpers. One thing I noticed is the light for ACPI on the left hand side of the Psumoni screen is off. I don't know if that is just for the wired pulse, or if it indicates USB function as well.

Out of curiosity, I took your advice and just turned off the valet switch I have in-line to the ignition input to the 2140. After a brief delay, all power was just cut off. It did not initiate any type of shutdown. I checked the soft jumpers, and they are definitely set to standby using the USB connection. I pressed the update button just in case; but got the same results. I read through the installation manual, but still don't have a clue what could be wrong.

If you're computer isn't going to standby mode then that's your issue. Check your power Option settings in the control panel on your PC. Go to the advanced tab and see what it's set to do when the power button is pressed. It should be set to stand by.

If the PSU goes into stand by mode, but your computer isn't in stand by mode it's drawing more current than the PSU will allow. And it cuts the power to preserve your battery.

My computer will definitely go into standby mode. If I press the power button, it goes into standby. I can also put it into standby from the start menu, or from RR's shutdown menu options. The problem is that the 2140 does not initiate standby when the ignition is turned off.

Sounds like something isn't wired right. The 2140 is supposed to send a signal to your PC.

It does turn on automatically though, at least that's what I gathered from your first post.

My PC has a feature in bios to power up when power is applied.

Since the Carnetix support forums are dead, I think I will pursue the serial shutdown methods. If that doesn't work out, I will be forced to solder to the power button. I was trying to avoid this, since I am possibly the worst solderer on the planet.
