Digital Now Dabby USB FM/DAB+/TV tuner integration RideRunner

    Hi,

First of all, I'm sorry if I didn't post this in the proper category.

I have purchased a the Digital Now Dabby USB FM/DAB+/TV tuner (http://www.digitalnow.com.au/product_pages/Dabby.html) and I think embedding the provided software in a skin looks really doggy, especially the radio software!.

I think I found out that the Dabby uses a Realtek chipset RTL2832U but I have not been able to find driver source code for windows (anyway I'm not sure what I would do with them ) I did however (I think) find some sort of kernel for linux (http://hg.geexbox.org/geexbox/file/0...-rtl2832u.diff)

As you can imagine, I would love to be able to have the radio (and TV) fully integrated in RR, however, I know nothing about coding and I was wondering if anyone would be able to make a plugin for it. I am happy to help, I'm in Sydney, I have the USB dongle, I'm happy to search the net for info (if I know what to look for).

It would be awesome to have digital radio in Australia, fully integrated to RR.

    Thanks in advance,
    bebetaz

This is looking to become a common chipset in the DAB+ game, as I have posted on the Mygica range of DVB-T / DAB+ tuners, which use the same chipset.

I'm hoping to find a coder who can do some interfaces for both CF and RR, which would allow this chipset to work.

Another thread that is similar to what you are looking for is here:

I'm actually at the point where I would buy a card and post it to a developer, and even try to come up with some funds for paying for the development if someone is interested in taking on this project....the plus side to these units is you could also integrate TV into CF and RR with the same module...that HAS to be a plus!

Thanks for your reply, I will follow what is happening, happy to contribute if need be, but I don't know how much it would cost. So far I have embedded the apps in RR, but it doesn't look that great.

I have also contacted Realtek to get some info, they told me to contact someone at maxmediatek.com which is the company that writes the vivaradio software I use for the dongle, so far no replies

Hope someone can come up with a plugin.

    Cheers,

You got to work fast with these kind of products, hopefuly you will have a working plugin before they discontinue it. The venice 5 was chosen for the DIY DAB project because it can be found in cheap DAB radio, you can pick one up for about £10 or less and there should be tons on ebay. Even with that, by the time a working plugin was created venice 7 is becoming the standard and the protocol were not compatible. Hopefuly venice 7 slave plugin will be available soon and is here to stay for a while or be compatible with future modules.

Your best bet is to design a complete radio that uses that kind of chipset and not rely on the USB radio manufacturer. But then dealing with the chip manufacturer you will have the minimum order to worry about.

Either way good luck, Im interested to see a working plugin for this too.

Someone in this http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/tv...index2.html#17 forum has aquired a SDK for the Realtek to write open source software, especially for the Dabby.

    Hi peter_f,

This is great news, I have actually replied to the thread in the mediaportal forum offering to be a Guinea pig and asking if we could share the SDK, hopefully someone here can write a plugin for RR. I wish I could do such thing, but I have no ideas on how to write a plugin, so I can only offer my help as tester.

    Let's hope we get somewhere.
    Cheers,

That is outstanding news, I would love to see what he has in the way of the SDK, to compare to what I have received from Mygica.... the documentation I have is a little sketchy unfortunately, it seems to be missing some more in depth information.

Bebetaz, if you hear back from him (I'm not a member of that forum), would you like to let him know that I would love to have a look at his SDK as well. I can also offer the copy that I was given, which has some sample DAB and FM programs and Visual Studio projects as well.

I have the Mygica T188 and also the T1800B dual tuner cards that I can test the plugins on as well.
