I bet there's not too many people that are android devs AND have one of the radios AND would be interested in making it work.
Maybe if you offered up a radio to lend/donate.
There is a library for using USB/RS232 (IE; Mitch's cable) when making Android apps.
The coder could make a couple bucks putting it on the App Store to at least make enough to pay back for the library.
Android tablets are one of the growing hardware platforms to get used in the car. I'm sure several folks will grab it (I would).
hardware to devs a couple times. I just don't have the budget to do that right now.
bluetooth adaptor to try but havent got around to trying it. I cant use it with usb/232 with my phone since it only has one port that I am hoping to use with HDMI if the x2 modules ever get worked out (not working with 4.0.4 and up devices do to a driver issue they tell me). Anyway I want to do this and conect to a alpine pxa-h70x , not that I know how to do it all but I am willing to try.
I would gladly donate money if a dev offered to do the coding for this. I have desperately been trying to find a solution for getting TRUE radio for android. Basically, as I see it, if the tablet/phone doesn't have built in radio then an external module is needed. I have been thinking the solutions might include:
building a bluetooth arduino module, and creating an app that can control the module
using a usb solution such as Mitches Cable, or a usb thumb stick fm radio, and then once again creating an app to control it.
ORRRR finding an android dock that's app enhanced which adds radio control to the phone/tablet.
Currently I am thinking of integrating this dock into my next setup (when it's released): http://www.gear4.com/android/
....but that's still not optimal or price efficient
But bottom line, yea, I would donate money to help find this solution, as I can't code for *****. Oh and if anyone mentions TUNEIN radio in this thread I'm gonna freak haha.
hmmm. yes, a bluetooth RS232 could work without the need for the library I mentioned. Would of course still need the app but that's part way there.
Integrating the radio sounds intriguing. Didn't see the price, but it needs a way to get good signal once integrated.
I would also consider donating a bit of cash (or purchase via Play Store) for a working app.
I have been looking on ebay at bluetooth RS232 items. Most do not seem to support the DTR line that Mitch's cable uses to turn the radio on/off.
Is that okay? I mean if you power the radio's trigger line from another source anyway, is it necessary? Is the DTR line just for software control of on/off?
Is there a better sub-forum to ask this?
I think this is the right place to ask, just the right people haven't seen it yet. I'm going to point malcom here since he did quite a bit of interfacing work with one of the HD radios for a plugin for his FE.
Also, Lankin, have you thought about using TUNEIN or I(heart)Radio? Would probably be a whole lot easier... (I couldn't resist.)
Yea, I'm thinking this thread should be advertised somewhere else...like maybe someone should start a thread over at XDA...not sure.
And thanks Tidder haha. I swear though, every time you look for a solution for FM radio on android, the thread always ends with...try TUNEIN haha.
