I wonder if you can use any maps with navit. As far as I know you can only use open street maps. If you get it working with garmin customs please post your findings as that would be awesome.
I like idea Navit ported to iPhone, and want to try Navit using our Garmin customs maps as i used to be an active member map developers here http://navigasi.net/goptd.php.
I am waiting my wife coming home from Hongkong with iPhone 3G on hand few days more, meanwhile trying to use my daughter's iPod Touch.
So anyone could lead me how to install custom Garmin maps format on iPhone would be much appreciated beforehand? can we use libGarmin for it.
I found this alternative too that hopefully is a trully native iPhone App
http://sygic.com/press/press_12.3.09.html,as Teleatlas maps for Sygic is also available for our regions.

So we are on the same boat then![]()
You can use several map sources :

http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/European_maps (the ones i use, 18e on amazon last time i checked)

So....does someone want to let me in on the secret of how to actually use Navit on iPhone to generate a route?
I had a chance to play with it in the car today and could not for the life of me figure out how to actually use it to navigate to a location! I'd looked for documentation online, tried all of the buttons and settings, but to no avail.
I've managed to use it for simply tracking my position, but it isn't really working for anything beyond that.

Thank you Kazer for your suggestion and confirmation, but i am not confidence enough with my little knowledge and experience in those, especially using Linux.
Do i have to convert or compile maps data?
I hope you understand my English.
Yeaaaa. Can't say I figured that out yet either. It has "potential" because of the open routing engine but someone needs to unlock that potential. We would have to ask the developer if he plans to keep updating navit to be more user friendly.
I am agree with you, i see that opportunity from begiinning since those map data i'll be using is not locked and also free of charge....good vitamin...ha..ha...
Hpefully is a good food combine Navit, custom maps and iPhone..
In the meantime waiting for an iPhone,i am going to try to do a little experementation through cygwin and see what's happenning with those custom maps.
I have downloaded and installed navit, made the costume map and placed into the correct folder inside /var/mobile/media/maps/planet.bin
But as I start the app I get a big yellow screen, there are the "+" and "-" and sound buttons. But it it not displaying anything else.I can access the settings panel but that's all.
What could be the problem....(by the way, when downloading a map, I get a 27 MB bin file no matter how big selection I make)...
THX!!
Make sure you Dowloaded the correct map section and make sure navit has located that area
reports show re doing the process can fix the nav engine problem
