PPE,
I'm getting ready to purchase my OBDII package, but I need to know if I buy the ScanXL, do I need the DashCommand as well? I want the ScanXL for tunning and diagnostics, but also would like to do a Custom Gauge Cluster to replace my gauges
Yippee!
My elm327 unit final turned up on the 'slow boat from China' today. I hope to test it in the car tomorrow and will download Dashcommand on to the laptop in a minute.
I guess I'll find out tomorrow but is it easy to change between screens using Dashcommand embedded in RoadRunner i.e. using asmbpm's fantastic gauges?
Many thanks,
Dave

Since DashCommand is designed with custom gauge functionality in mind, it is not ideally suited for tuning and diagnostics. So I would recommend that you get both ScanXL (for your tuning and diagnostics needs) and DashCommand (for your custom gauge cluster project).
However, since ScanXL does include support for DashXL dashboards, you may be able to use just ScanXL. Of course, when you see the new features we are adding to DashCommand, you will want both.

I am running PCM Scan and have loaded those GTR screens, which incidentally look great.
Can someone walk me throuh the process of making them work?
What do I do with the psf files?
Will those scripts work with my Ford?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have to select correct PIDs to monitor them, according PIDs are programed in gauges. You can see what PID are using every gauge with DashXL Editor.
You have to import psf files from Script Editor PCMSCAN menu
For example, SCRIPT.FUEL calculate how many fuel liters remaing in fuel tank, but it's calculated for 61 fuel liters tank capacity (Mazda RX-8 fuel tank capacity). You will have to change those parameters to adjust gauges to your car.
I was hoping that I could simply extract the GTR .dxl files and scripts under dashxl and script folders in Dashcommand......is this not the case?
If not does this mean that each make/model of car has different PIDs? And is it easy to get the PID data so I can avoid sitting out in the car for ages?
Thanks,
Dave

Most of PIDs are named the same way in all cars, like SAE.RPM, but other pid, maybe are not avaliable, or are name in different way.
Morning all,
I downloaded Dashcommand demo to my Acer 1353 AMD Athlon 2400 (64MB shared memory) with 512MB DDR RAM. I tested the Elm 327 unit by using Dashcommand 'evalution copy'. It seemed to work ok but the CPU usage remained at 100%. Is there any explanation/workaround for this as my Car PC mobo is only an EPIA M10000?
I really want to use this application but I'm reluctant to purchase a copy if the other functions of the Car PC i.e. Music and GPS are compromised. Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Cheers,
Dave

The application definitely is not that resource intensive. Many are running it on car pc's.
My guess is something has hung. Try looking at running processes, or uninstall and re-install.
