    Google POI Search

    Google POI Search Mod - Search tool for Google Points of Interest based on current location.

    This is an update on an existing mod. I simply rewrote sections to make it work with the new layout of Google search pages. This mod IS NOT 100% complete, but the main functionality does work. I would rather release something 80-90% done than not at all... Version 2.0 will use Yahoo Live search or Google XML feeds instead of a parsed html file.

    Version 1.99a
    • Fixed the 2 and 3 digit values for Longitude so they now apply correctly.
    • Fixed the names so if the search keyword is in the title of the result it removes the extra characters around it.
    • Disabled the "Previous" and "More" results buttons since the mod will only pull 10 results in total.

    Version 1.99
    • Updated code and rewrote several sections to read the search page properly
    • Tested on 1.1.6 however this should still work on earlier versions as before. The primary reason the first version failed was due to an update in the source.
    Known Bugs w/1.99
    • The icons are not downloading properly on new search terms however the main functionality of the app is working properly
    • When searching on generic terms such as "Pizza" the titles of the results have extra characters around them. Easily fixable...but haven't done it yet.
    • If your Longitude is less than 100 it breaks...
    • Only 10 results are returned. The list on page 1 has room for 6 values, if you click "More Results" it shifts the results up so page 2 shows 5-10. Page 1 shows 1-6. Until this is rewritten to use XML only 10 results will ever be returned.

    lol, I've spent the past few hours combing through old posts researching the status of importing new POI (among other SD & G4 related issues) only to find this! (thanks daniel) Can't wait to make POI usable again

    Yeah, well after needing to quickly find a place to grab dinner last night during a narrow window of time and getting NO help from my outdated POI (on top of visiting the OBX and running into countless dead ends last month) I figured today that I had to do something. And the preferred "something" would be to update the SD POI database.

    Dan I would have been in here first but I finally had to go watch Dark Night...(heath ledger was freaking amazing in it btw!)

    Because of this digimod (can we get a working link by 7am est PLEASE!!) I am taking betsy to work, I normally take my truck for weekdays but no way I can pass trying this out (hopefully it works on 1.1.0.0 because I was to lazy to update lol)

    The number of results return have to do with the results page that is returned by google. Google only shows 10 results per page so to get more than 10, it would have to parse and download muyltiple pages. When I flip this over to XML I'll be able to grab more than 10 results.

    I gave it a quick shot, and it found local businesses but whenever i clicked on any i received an error like can not read from database with a bunch of numbers. tomorrow i could reply with more details.

    I made an update to it this morning to fix a bug that I found with the Longitude values. Grab the new one and test it out again.

    Retried with the new updated version and works

    Is there a way to download all of the POI's somehow to use while offline? I do not have constant internet with my carpc.
