I love the frontend! It is definitely the solution to a lot of my problems. The FLAC support fix is greatly appreciated as well. I just have a few questions. How do I set up my phone to work via Bluetooth? I am assuming that it does not allow for hands free calling (to be added later?) but if it alerts for calls that would be great. Also, I had seen somewhere that MS Streets and Tips can be embedded. How does that work exactly? I am certainly excited to try this out some more =)

    Duncan,

BlueTooth is a work in progress. If you have a phone that actually implements the SPP and DUN profiles and an AT-Command service, then DriveLine can alert you to incoming calls and text messages. On my Droid 2 Global, I manually paired the phone with the PC and told the PC to connect to the DUN service on the phone. If it asks for a telephone number, just ignore or enter blank. It's not used for dialing numbers, but the DUN modem/service in the phone responds to AT commands over the Serial Port Profile. Unfortunately, it appears that only a few phones support this method (Moto Droids on stock firmware and stock ROM for example). The good news is that I'm currently immersing myself in Blue Soleil and I hope to be able to detect incoming calls soon. From there, the next step is address-book retrieval, and then finally work on Hands-Free. So, if you're using a Blue Soleil BlueTooth adapter, I should have more options for you in the future.

As for Streets and Trips, I haven't actually launched Streets and Trips in a long time. Can't even remember which version I was using. I think other navigation programs are more popular, so I turned my focus toward iGuidance and GMPC. I will have to take some time to see where I left Streets and Trips. What version are you using?

Yeah that was what I figured for Bluetooth. I have a Motorola Triumph but its running cyanogenmod so I guess it won't work. I will look into DUN profiles though, because I do not really know much about that.

Streets and Tips would not be my first choice, I just thought it might integrate nicely. Right now I don't have any navigation software (paid or free) because I have been unable to find a working one. Both iGuidance and GMPC are no longer supported by their developers so I am wary about purchasing them. It's actually confusing to me trying to find software so if either of those integrate well with Driveline, I would gladly try to acquire one. It's a shame that I have my BU-353 finding my location almost immediately and never losing track, but having no software to tell me how to get places! I am glad for location and directions being available in Driveline but a full nav program would be very useful to embed someplace.

Anyways, what I am actually more interested in after driving around today with Driveline, is to have Google Traffic. With Google Maps on my phone, I can pull up the traffic so I can see what roads are totally backed up and which ones are clear. However, its not very efficient to try to use my phone, especially when there is a 7inch touch screen mounted in the dash. Are you working on a Traffic app? Similar to the weather app on the main page would be awesome. I am going to look into learning the code when I get some time. It seems like this is a good platform to build upon and customize to my liking =)

I run a custom ROM on my phone as well (Gummy), so my old BlueTooth code doesn't even work for me anymore. I think my new BlueTooth implementation will be working pretty well in the next couple of weeks. I've got Hands-Free working on my test machines. The only requirement is that the PC uses a BlueTooth adapter that runs BlueSoleil software. In fact, I'm quite proud of the code, and I'll be just as excited about uploading the source code as I will be for the actual implementation in DriveLine. No wrapper DLL here -- just pure VB.Net code.

I must admit that I usually drive to places I know, or places I looked up online before traveling. So navigation software has never been my main concern. Especially with all the different options, and not knowing which ones will still be around in a year or two. I think the new "Directions" interface in DriveLine helps. But you would either need a passenger to read it, or you would have to pull over and read it. I was going to remove the "Speak" button from the Directions window, but now I'm not so sure.

DriveLine actually used to have Traffic alerts and would show construction and traffic accidents along with severity. Unfortunately, Yahoo shut down their Traffic API two years ago, so it was removed from DriveLine. I wanted to integrate Google Traffic as an image, like the way the current Map/Location window appears in DriveLine. However, I haven't figured out how to do that yet. So I might have to write some sort of web interface for Google Traffic and display it in a WebBrowser window (like the weather radar maps).

Basically, the high priorities for DriveLine at this time are:
    BlueTooth HandsFree
    Traffic
    BlueTooth Phonebook access
    Navigation
    BlueTooth Music (maybe)

For me the navigation is more to tell me where I am (without using the Internet; I like downloaded maps) and where major highways are and such. What I really want it for anyways is traffic alerts relative to my location. It's less about the directions and more about alternative directions around an accident, construction, or even tolls. My unrealistic endgoal one day would be a popup that alerts me to Traffic along my route and suggests the best way around it before it's too late, all of this done without input. Haha I'm just fantazing now.. Anyways, back to what you were taking about. I love your list of things to do because that's exactly what I want to include in my car! I do have a question about the music player though. Shuffle only works when one song progresses to the next but when I hit the next button, it only goes to the next song on the playlist. This is quite the issue when an artist with over 100 tracks comes on that I don't want to hear right then. I was just wondering if there is a way to configure that. This is so exciting :-)

Yeah now that I am continuing to use it more, the shuffle thing is really annoying me lol. Like the same songs keep playing and not being able to skip them is excruciating now. Honestly I don't understand what is going on because it does shuffle--sometimes. It's really weird how it will play the same songs (almost as if the shuffle is a determined random order). By this I mean that yes it does not play the songs in the order of the playlist, but everytime I begin the playlist while set to shuffle, the songs that it progresses to are generally the same ones. I know its not an issue of limited track count, which would have a similar outcome, because there are well over 6000 songs. I would just like to make sense of this because I really love the UI but if this is an unfixable issue, I won't be able to continue using the software.. Sorry if I am not making sense, its just frustrating haha.

Don't worry. It'll be fixed for next release (in a few days). I've already found the problem and fixed it. The NextTrack button not being randomized/shuffled is already fixed too. And I've got hands-free calls with notifications working pretty well. Heck, there's even a couple of buttons for pulling up traffic now.

I'll upload a test version for you later today and message you with the link.

Dude that's awesome. And pretty damn quick! I will gladly test it out for you. Hopefully by some miracle later today meant before 4pm so that I can get it before leaving work and use it during the commute home. But if not, I will still be able to test it out on my laptop and then in the car in the morning. Thanks!
