That is correct. Might as well install it now if you haven't already.

    edit: Or possibly dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe

I am assuming .Net 4.0 is also compatible with Win 7?

There's a new sexy TEST version up on my personal website, using .Net Framework 4.0 client profile. I feel like it has better performance, but maybe it's all in my mind.

If you've already got the .Net Framework 4.0 installed, this should be like any other update to DriveLine. As always, I recommend using the built-in updater.

To see some of the new eye-candy, I suggest enabling Transitions and also trying out the Experimental skin.

One nice change to this test version is that almost all settings can now be modified inside the program instead of manually editing the XML files. So you can now set up Home Folders easily. Also, managing stored Locations is now much easier. And renaming of Phidgets. The only thing you can't set up inside the program is the Embedded Apps.

I have been playing with the latest test version and like it, but being a noob I don't know how to do many things. I have read almost all the driveline threads but still don't know how to use a lot of things.

What exactly are embedded apps, and how do I add them? I have MS Streets and Trips installed but don't know if it can be setup to work inside of driveline.

Is it possible for me to to edit out the DAB and XM buttons in the player screen, as I only will be using HD Radio and Media buttons?

Is there a recommended reading tutorial thread that I missed or should consolt first?

    Thanks,
    Robert

Embedded apps are any program you have installed and in the driveline setting page you would add the location of the program's exe file. If you install streets and trips in its default location it will embed automatically. You can edit the settings.xml file and add programs that way too. As for the radio's not needed, well thats more difficult as thats part of the actual skin. Clockwork will be able to answer in more detail or correct my mistakes in info. SNO

An embedded is app is any external program (such as Streets and Trips). When an embedded app is executed through DriveLine, the EXE is run, and then the program's window is embedded into the DriveLine UI. Adding embedded apps currently requires the user to edit an XML (DriveLine_Settings.XML) file. This will be the next thing that I try to make easier for the user to configure (probably today). For the moment, you can browse that XML file and see the entries that are currently in it. Then, edit one of them to point at a program you want to be able to run through DriveLine.

Streets & Trips isn't the best for in-car use. I think PC Navigator 11 Free is pretty good and the UI is designed for touch-screens.

If you will have internet in your vehicle, the built-in Maps, Directions, and Traffic windows in DriveLine can also help get you from A to B.

As for the tabs for different audio sources... I could edit the skins to disable or hide the tabs that correspond to unused audio sources. However, the remaining visible tabs wouldn't shift to the left or change their spacing. Well, not without a lot of work.

If you simply want to remove those two buttons, you can edit the skin file (Skin_Frame_Visualization.xml) and add <VISIBLE>FALSE</VISIBLE> to the two objects LabelSourcesType_XM and LabelSourcesType_DABRadio. However, since this is the default skin, your change would get overwritten when installing a new version. If you want to dive further into the skins, you could create your own skin that references the Default Skin for every window except the Now Playing window, and then make the above changes in your new skin.

Wow, that's lots of great info Jesse and SNO. I spent a couple hours looking over the files in Driveline, and decided to tackle the Now Playing screen today.

I played with the Skin_Frame_Visualization.xml file, adding the <VISIBLE>FALSE</VISIBLE> lines to DAB and XM, modified <TEXT>Media</TEXT> to change "Media" to "Media Player", shifted <POSX>4%</POSX> to <POSX>15%</POSX> and <WIDTH>18%</WIDTH> to <WIDTH>26%</WIDTH>. That made the button a little bigger and centered to match.

    Here is the result:

Very nicely done. most of the settings are self-explanatory once you dig into the XML.

If you want to get different visualizations working, close DriveLine, open Media Player, and select a Visualization in there. DriveLine uses whatever visualization is set in Windows Media Player.
