Thread: What about using Windows 8 :fear:

It really needs multi-touch to get full use and also 7" screen is too small for win8. It's great on a exopc with it's 11.6" screen, very fast on the atom. You can get start8 to get the start button back. Driveline work's fine under win8 so far in my tests.. SNO

I had problems with Metro's resolution requirements too, setting it to 1024 x 768 to run Metro apps, but found that the Metro apps annoy me with Bing adds and popups. I was so frustrated with the whole MS wannabe Android that I installed Start8 on my computer too.

Then I discovered that even if I am in Driveline, if I move my trackball to the bottom right corner of the screen, a popup springs from the right side of the screen and I can get to Metro apps even while in Driveline. So I tested with a stylus, and found that also lets me popup to Metro.

So how does this help you? It's don't BUT, I think it's possible to program a metro shortcut in Driveline under the shortcuts screen. You should be able to link to any Metro apps you want.

What annoys most is there is no way of controling the sound volume in the music app !!! if you use the sound keyboard hotkeys a small menu pops up with volume controls.
but i just read that if you swipe down inside the app you can get a context menu with the app setting in there !!! not sure about sound controls. will test on the way back home.

I have 3 methods of controlling the volume on my carputer, all through USB. 1st is steering wheel controls programmed through the Joycon EXR, 2nd is the USB programmable buttons that came with my D-DIN case, and 3rd is a Griffin Powermate knob that looks just like a home stereo receiver's big aluminum tuning knob. It glows a cool blue at the base too.

What I did was to set the volume in all of the programs I use be at the same level, then use the USB based devices to raise or lower system volume.

My car is too bouncy to use the touchscreen while driving, so I use the steering wheel buttons, and the Griffin Powermate is so passengers can turn down the volume, or click down to mute, when they want to talk to me...(a requirement of my wife).

I would recommend getting one of the USB volume knobs. There are so many out there to choose from, I am sure you can find something that suits your needs.

rray, are you on XP? I'm asking because my Powermate has been collecting dust since I moved to W8. It won't work with RR.

For the powermate, I saw a write up somewhere where they used it as a housing and reloaded it's internals with a USB mouse, I've been saving mine for that, just need the time.

To tell the truth, I have not tried my Powermate while in Driveline, because I had been getting my steering wheel buttons going, but it does work in Windows 8 32 bit. I'll try it on the way home from work this afternoon.

I think I just solved it. I tried using 2.0.1 drivers and selected "Run as Admin" and it actually works now. Volume/mute work perfect, I'm trying to set the other 3 functions for scrolling up and down in the music menu and selecting with a dbl left click but I'm not sure yet it it's going to work out or not. At least the volume is working finally!! I haven't used this thing in over a year due to this. Now it looks like it was a simple fix.
