    Help using a different soundcard

Just discovered DriveLine -- love it so far.

Can anyone tell me how to make it use a different soundcard? I have two, one on mobo and one is an external USB soundcard. In Windows, the mobo is set to be the default but I would like DriveLine to use the USB soundcard. I can't change the Windows default soundcard because that affects other apps, most notably, Windows Media Center which the kids use to watch movies in the back with headphones.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Hi glad you found this great front-end! Clockwork should be able to tell you how,if it can be done. I know it see's my different sound cards (you need to know their names for each input/output) I know it does separate screens just not sure how refined it is. Might be a nice little project for him if it doesn't support what you need. SNO

It's not actually separate screen I need (although I tested that and it works great). In my case, I just want one screen but want to choose which soundcard to send audio to. You said it "sees" your different soundcards... can you elaborate on where you see them? Thx

It might be easiest to have on screen 1 (sound card 1) screen 2 (sound card 2/sound card1) as you can have screen 2 as primary Just a thought SNO

Another (related?) issue is when I configure my Directed HD radio (Comm port, baud, Line In) it works -- sort of. I can tune channels, and observe the Artist, Title and other data from the channel. But no audio. So I opened up the audio mixer tool that came with the soundcard, I notice that "Line In" volume is set to 0. If I increase this, then I hear the Directed HD radio. BUT.... now I hear the HD radio ALL the time, even when muted on DL, and if DL is playing an MP3, it will be mixed with the HD radio audio. I am guessing that I'm not supposed to mess with the Line In volume in Windows, and just let DL take care of it. But I can't get HD radio to work any other way.

When I start up DriveLine, I get a "No Media Loaded" message and when I go to Now Playing, there is no media there. However I have added the directories containing my MP3's and videos in Settings-->Home Folders. Is there something else I am supposed to do?

One final question would be is there a way to use a different media player such as WinAmp?

Great front-end. I am looking forward to digging into the source someday when I have more time. For now, I need music for a cross-country RV trip in to weeks!
    Thanks in advance
    Tim

Regarding your HD unit, go into DriveLine--Settings--Radios--HDRadio--PC Audio Input Line. Make sure this is set to the correct LineIn.
(note: I've had reports that some audio-mixer software may conflict with DriveLine. You may need to try disabling the audio-mixer software.)

No Media Loaded means your playlist is empty. If you go to the Playlist screen, you can add media files to the playlist.

DriveLine is limited to Windows Media Player. In the early days of DriveLine, I considered WinAMP. I even still have the code I was working on for it. But integrating WMP (especially the visualization) was a much more streamlined solution.

Thanks for your interest in DriveLine. I've put a lot of time and code into it. If you find something that doesn't work, we'll make it work.

Uninstalled the sound card drivers, which leaves windows to manage it. Same results. If you go to Control Panel-->Sound-->Recording-->Line In-->Properties-->Listen and check the "Listen to this device" checkbox then it works. But I think this isn't how it's supposed to work. For one thing, it ALWAYS plays the HD radio when you do this, even if DL is not running. I think what this does is pipe the Line In straight to the Line Out, which would explain then why the radio plays all the time.

So you're saying there is no way to just browse by Artist or browse all music, it is designed such that you must add tracks to the Playlist for anything to play?
