Portrait - any examples, ideas on how to adjust the skin?

I see that Clockwork in last Sept added the capability to translate skins between Portrait and Landscape. That being said, I will only have Portrait mode in my truck. Looking at doing a 10" so I will have some real estate as well. Wondering if anyone has any screen shots or examples (or skins for that matter) showing what the integration could look like. If not, I am a bit of an XML noob but am more than willing to conquer what I need to learn to adjust it. Any ideas or thoughts in pointing me that direction would be great.

I think Clockwork is busy these days with a bad bug in the volume control with certain sound chips, so it might be a day or two for an answer. I am a xml learner too and have found the "visual studio 2005 tools for applications" is great with xml files. Good luck SNO

I am patient, in fact I need the Chalk-elec 10" to come back into stock. Just want to have an idea before I embark on the journey. This gives you an idea of how far I am lol. Just thought someone on here might have already gone down this path.

Hi, not trying to hijack the thread but, ....... this gent seems to be using a portrait version skin that's still in progress for RR.

This may give Clockwork some ideas?

Not a hijack. While a driveline topic any and all ideas are great. In particular since I need gauges that is helpful in stirring the idea pot for me.

So, I've been thinking on this one. Portrait mode is definitely something I've put off. And now that a user is asking about it, I've been motivated to give it some thought. And my first ideas are:

I could modify the default skin to be portrait-aware, in a way that it almost acts like two screens (top and bottom). A regular click on a tile opens the appropriate window on the "primary" half of the screen. A long-hold on a tile opens the window on the "secondary" half of the screen.

Option # 2 would probably be a brand new skin. Not an easy undertaking.

Being selfish, in my application two screens might actually prove the most useful. I'd really like gauges pretty much on half the screen all the time anyways. Of course switching whether they were on the top or bottom would be great as well.

Another option would be for me to run Driveline in the top half of the screen (if that were possible) and then have a gauge package running in the bottom half.

Building on the second one if there is a way to have apps that load half screen or full screen that could be cool as well. I am still waiting for the screen (which you can tell from the pic) but am eager to fool around with options.

Last thing I wanted was to make you think about something custom for me. I read the release notes and saw the portrait notes and like Driveline in landscape so I wanted to explore portrait since my car screams for a long tall screen.

Option 1 isn't too bad. I like it because then I have some official support for portrait with no effort on the user's part.

Option 2 is easy. You can just edit Skin_Form_Main.XML, and set height to 50%.

Controlling the apps gets trickier. Not impossible though.

I really should have some support for portrait mode, and this might be a good start. The complicated part is trying to support both, so the user could presumably be holding a tablet, and rotate it.

I'm open to experiment with any and all options. Ordering pc parts and components here this week.

Are the positions of the widgets on the screen completely locked? ie, can I move them around and/or resize them somehow?

I am an XML noob, but didn't realize there was a logo selector in the software so I found all locations of it in the XML files and changed the logo. If there is a comparable thing I can do to re-organize the screen to make a portrait skin I'd be willing to tackle it. If it is hardcore coding then it is probably over my head, but thought I'd ask.

I assume this is what you meant by it'd be a lot of work to make a new skin for portrait mode. Just wondering where the work lies, not that I want you to do it but I'd like to understand it if I can.
