    camera recording

So i thought that Driveline actually recorded video with the cameras, but it looks like it just does the photos from every 0.5 to 5.0 seconds. anyway to record the actual video?

Recording video seemed to use a lot of CPU (especially when adding the overlay) as well as disk access. And the obvious issues with disk space. So I went with stills.

If actual video is needed, I can look into that. The nice thing about the still images is that they are recorded in a sliding buffer so it's easy to manage memory usage..

I figured it would be resource intensive, but I would love to have it. Also, this carputer is speced better than my gaming rig, all except the video card of course...

Maybe Driveline could check cpu specs and if below a certain threshold would disable video recording. I agree that most carputers these days are running much faster cpu's compared to a couple of years ago. Mine is old now and its a mobile quad core. Just my 2 cents SNO

haha, I can record video, but I put the capture app in "my applications" page through settings. I could never figure out how to get the camera page to work with 3 different capture devices and different cameras. Just black screen always. Anyways, it's only a couple extra button presses to use the camera this way.

rray: I still don't know why we couldn't get any of your cameras to work. If one of them is cheap and available online, send me a link and I will consider ordering one to investigate. I will say though that embedding a camera app is a nice simple solution.

SNO / psi3000: I will admit that there is another reason I haven't added video recording. Around a year ago (or two, or whatever), I looked into it. It didn't work out and it wasn't very fun, so I didn't pursue it. It conflicted with the still-image capture too. As always though, I am much more likely to make something work when it's a feature that people actually want. I'm probably 90% of the way there already, but DirectX is complicated, and the wrapper that I'm using has taught me almost nothing.

So, let's just pretend that I could make video recording work. I figure there would need to be settings for resolution, fps, maybe some codec choices, obviously a path, and maximum file sizes. Am I missing anything?

Would it be possible to add a input time to record for? Instead of just picking from preset ones? Like the photo capture feature has?

Of course. And currently, you can override the settings by manually editing the Settings.XML file.
